I suspect you simply enjoy new pieces more than older ones. My closet is overflowing with so many great pieces, yet I largely only wear my recent purchases. I guess this is partially due to an irrational excitement generated by new pieces, but also due to my constantly changing stylistic preferences.

This is true for the most part. I sometimes have a habit of getting bored with things too quickly and will sell it just to try something new. And also because I'm constantly trying to fine tune my aesthetic.
