An erotic watch might be fun for shock value if you have a buttoned-up persona, i.e., you're the type of person who everyone assumes would wear a Patek dress watch. "Party on the wrist, business everywhere else!"

I'll say this... I do not understand erotic watches. Like, I truly do not understand the appeal at all - and this is coming from a guy who just expressed interest in a yellow ceramic big bang.
Oh come on, man.
Start out with something simple like this, and then move slowly, at your own pace, into the more exotic decor offerings.
Loosen up, take a few risks, live a little!

I think it fits with @Newcomer 's Vegas/Miami comment. I could actually wear the bright yellow watch in some situations but not the other watches. I like Watch P0rn but not P0rn Watches.

(I had to put the zeroes in because SF substituted "appreciation" for "p0rn."

Impressive, your signature works 100% of the time!

Oh, I would buy the **** out of this. I love it.

Everyone would get sick of the "ace up my sleeve" joke I'd make every single day, too

A strap question: Do any of you know of a maker (preferably European) who makes large scale alligator straps, non-raised, no interlining, totally flat - off the rack?

edit: last question may be better suited for the other thread, I'll re-post there.
I know DeBeer and Hadley-Roma make very flat alligator or croco straps, probably at least several others, maybe check RIOS etc.

At much higher price point, the ABP Paris "Milano" is very flat.

I think that all non-custom straps have at least some interlining.

I assume that most posters in this thread have more than one watch, so I thought it would be interesting to have a discussion about watch collecting. Here are a couple of questions to kick off discussion (my answers in bold). Please add more questions that might lead to interesting conversation.

1. How many watches do you own? Let's limit it to watches you wear at least semi-regularly (say in the last year). Don't count broken watches you haven't gotten fixed, watches that you are keeping purely for sentimental reasons, and watches that are no longer your style. 10

2. Are you planning to increase your collection, consolidate it, or stay put? I was planning to stay put, but temptation is too great. I'm looking to add one or two more, then I will stop. At least that's what I tell myself.

3. Do you have any "rules" about collecting other than "I buy what I like"? I have a small collection so I want it to be diverse: every watch from a different manufacturer, a mix of modern and vintage. I like a running second hands and minute markers. I prefer stick markers to Arabic numerals and Arabic numerals to Roman numerals. I avoid precious metals (too fragile). I like chronographs, so I have a subcollection of five within the main collection.

4. Do you buy and keep, catch and release, or somewhere in the middle? I'm generally buy and keep. I've traded one watch and that's it.

5. Has your watch collecting ever gotten you in trouble with your wife? I'm single. :-D

2. Are you planning to increase your collection, consolidate it, or stay put? Mostly stay put. Would consider a dress watch like JLC Master Control or something similar if there was a good deal to be had.

3. Do you have any "rules" about collecting other than "I buy what I like"? I don't really "collect" in the true sense of the word. Mine all fill niches like dress, diving (Submariner serves as both for me), hiking, summer knockabout, sports, etc.

4. Do you buy and keep, catch and release, or somewhere in the middle? I buy to keep but have passed on a few to my son who loves it when I get tired of one.

5. Has your watch collecting ever gotten you in trouble with your wife? Nah, but only because I'm not very extravagant and, on my second marriage, I got my Sub before we met.

I have 6-ish in rotation with another on the way.
I'm a keeper, not a flipper.
I tend to stick to high beat autos. Big power reserves are nice, but not at the expense of a smooth second hand sweep.
I might get a G-shock mudmaster though.
I'm single, so it's pure self-disappointment sometimes.

5. Has your watch collecting ever gotten you in trouble with your wife? No. Every high cost item I buy is matched in $ value by my wife

@Ambulance Chaser - it is funny you posted this. I had just about started this exact same post (well, I had a slightly different lens).

I do want to start on a separate but related issue. I do not count myself as a watch collector. To me, a collector will often acquire for the very purpose of acquiring - by way of example, I used to collect hockey cards, and one of the aims of a collection is to acquire a complete set regardless of whether or not I care about a particular card or player. Stated otherwise, at least to me, each individual piece is far more important than the whole. And when I think of my dream collection, I am not certain that you could run a thread through it.

If anything, I am only a collector in the very broadest sense - and really, that is only because I do not want to have too many duplicate pieces (i.e., I simply do not understand having, say, 12 Rolexes (I'm looking at you @George Red). I think I'd like to have one piece - or no piece - in the large categories. Any more than that, and certain pieces just won't get worn.

But I've looked on other forums where one guy has like 8 Patek world timers - I really do not vibe with such a narrow collection (although it is cool!).

TLDR - what @smittycl said.

Now, onto your Qs!

1. How many watches do you own? Let's limit it to watches you wear at least semi-regularly (say in the last year). Don't count broken watches you haven't gotten fixed, watches that you are keeping purely for sentimental reasons, and watches that are no longer your style. 3 - JLC MUT Moon, Speedy Pro, and Orange Monster.

2. Are you planning to increase your collection, consolidate it, or stay put? Increase! I typically shift to one hobby at a time, and the next 2-3 years are my watch years. I'm looking to acquire one calendar watch, one dress chrono, a Submariner, and a fun watch (or two). In that order. We will see how many of these I can tick off.

3. Do you have any "rules" about collecting other than "I buy what I like"? I guess I buy what I like (or will buy what I like). Diversity is key, to me. Personally, I find this "hobby" to be pretty excessive. So I draw the line on acquiring for the sake of acquiring.

4. Do you buy and keep, catch and release, or somewhere in the middle? I buy for keeps!

5. Has your watch collecting ever gotten you in trouble with your wife? We do not judge each other's purchases. And I don't talk too much about what things cost.

1. 3 watches- Omega Seamaster 300M Pro (the version worn in Casino Royale, Omega Speedmaster FOIS, AP RO 15400)
2. Increase. I have a deposit down for the Speedmaster Snoopy 50th and thinking about getting a Cartier Tank Americaine or Santos Dumont (the dress watch version).
3. Only rule is never sell the Seamaster and never sell the APRO 15400. Everything else I don't really have a rule.
4. Buy for keeps right now. I'm thinking of selling the FOIS since I'm supposed to be getting a Speedmaster Snoopy 50th eventually and the FOIS doesn't get worn that often.
5. Single.

1) I own 4. Three purchased and one inherited.

2) keeping options open.

3) I buy what I like and what gives me an emotional reaction.

4) buy and hold.

5) no
