I wasn't aware of the application process that Ferrai has and thanks for pointing this out. Your right Patek doesn't include the owner when designing of the watch, and your right I think part of it is to make people feel special and I'm sure part is to make sure they spend a bit more before getting an application watch as well. But regardless it is the way they tend do things in the luxury watch business. There are certain watches you just can't get as easily. However there are enough people who are more than willing to put in their application. (This following part I've heard but not confirmed) Also they don't really want these watches to be re-sold as it it would kind of take away from the whole application process in the first place. I don't think you have to sign anything, however you may not be able to get another application piece if they find out about it. Since Patek would be the only one capable of servicing these watches, they would be able to find out about it pretty easily.
