Pretty much the opposite for me. I prefer the world edition to the US in part due to faux patina. When the black 'polo' strap came I didn't care for it - seemed inconguent with the 'casual' detailing on a black strap I suppose. I do think the brown with the contrast stitching looks great, but not being able to re-order it would be reason enough to stay away, IMO.

Do any of the Reversos have *white* (not silver) faces?

Oh yeah, if all I could find is the US version I certainly am not going to pass on it. I'd still rather look and try and get the worldwide version first though if possible.

There's something too incongruous to me in the fact that a re-edition of a vintage watch with vintage styling all around will have bleach-white marker forever because it will never develop any patina (luminova just doesn't turn yellow) so, as fake as it is, it just looks more logical to have a colored luminova that completes the vintage re-ed aesthetic.

As far as tribute models go, not to my knowledge. There are definitely older models--the squadra immediately comes to mind, as well as older reverso grande tailles that have a white dial.

The Grande Reverso Email has a lovely enamel white dial with a blue and red inner track.

    ^ Thanks.

I don't disagree and I don't *hate* the patinaed luminova, and (only going by the photos) it seems to be subtle enough, compared to some other recent faux patina IMO.

They should just use tritium for vintage re-eds :D

    Hey guys,
as my brother just got an apprenticeship as a watchmaker I thought about getting him his first proper watch. Thought about the following one: http://www.longines.com/watches/heritage-collection/L2.733.8.72.2
but am not too sure if it is appropriate for a 18 year old or if there are more suitable watches. Would love some feedback!

Hello Deedee - very thoughtful act you have decided to embark upon for your sibling!

Perhaps a less formal watch, based on the details you have currently supplied, would be a wiser purchase? The piece in your post is a chronograph dress watch (the date window is largely indicative of a non-dress watch, however this does not apply for the watch you have suggested).

Wrist measurements would be very handy (if you would please pardon the pun), but I hope you will heed these suggestions I have briefly provided:

How about the GO Meissen? I am trying to decide if the limited editions are a bit too OTT for me.

Seems like they are just too aimed at the asian market in general

Not sure I would buy a watchmaker (even a nascent one) a watch unless it was especially significant in the watchmaking world.

Still a nice gesture, and his choice is a column wheel chronograph IIRC

    +1.
I would think he would find vintage watch much more interesting.
