WarrenG: your advice really helped a lot. It is a 3572 as you recommended. Perfect advice. Exactly what I needed (hesalite front, historically accurate wording on the back, and of course the sapphire caseback). So many thanks go to you for helping me cut through all of that!

oisin: This is actually a TZ purchase, but as stated above I had made up my mind to wait for a 3572. Truth be told, I wasn't entirely ready to pull the trigger but the price was good and the seller was local, so I jumped on it. Who knows, if the prices on these keep going up I may swap it out for a 3570, but thats for later.

    Any Panerai fans in here?

Not everyone's cuppa, I know. While I know, appreciate, and own other pieces, a PAM on the wrist always makes me smile. And isn't that what this is all about?

I prefer the IWC. Something seems off about the Rolex.

I would agree w/ BUSP and Cuttingboard

Plenty of watches that look like that (Stowa, Nomos, or a Dornbluth for example)

also you're gonna pay a premium for a vintage rolex that looks unlike the sport sub/GMT esque & dress oyster models that would come later and define the brand...not to mention the added cost of servicing it.

The tear drop lugs are certainly unique though--as is the idea of a vintage piece. I wonder how much that rolex costs...
