I think Ralph Lauren has pretty much nailed the aesthetics of their watches. But the prices are just painful for a non-established, non-historic brand. At least the movements are well done, and if you think of it as a JLC chrono in a RL shell, then it is a deal.

    get all 4 :teach:

im still on the fence about the RL line. a fashion brand watch at that price point i have a hard time believing in, but on the other hand from what ive read and the pictures ive seen, they do seem to be quite nice. im left unsure.

Heh, then I might as well get a Dufour Simplicity or Voutilainen observatoire. Or a JLC Master Tourbillon. So it doesn't solve the problem...

Agree with everything. If that was branded JLC or Glashutte or IWC, I would buy it asap. Shallow, I know.

hayzum - you have a very nice collection. They are all lovely pieces, but I was especially caught by three in particular.

I'd like to know more about the history of this piece. Presumably it was made for the Arab/Ottoman market?

Late C19th Waltham? Lovely hunting case. Sterling silver I'm guessing.

Nice regulateur. Details if you have them!

^^ Personally I prefer the simplicity of the 3227, but that is still way nicer than anything in their current inge line-up.

Me too.! I have been trying to decipher the dial all day! Unfortunately its a small picture, and zooming in makes it illegible. As a non-native student of Arabic, calligraphy is challenging but the bismillah is clear between the 2 and the 10 and thats about all I can make out. I suspect the other things in the middle are a prayer, but I would like a clearer shot of the outer ring (99 names maybe?), and the symbol at the 12 o clock position.

hayzum you are killing me! [IMG]

Oh and the fact that we use "arabic numerals" in English to refer to western arabic numerals makes googling stuff like this very difficult!!![IMG]

The seller has indicated that it is the original black matte dial with old-style hour markers, but the lume is something I'm definitely considering. I wonder how much I'll miss it as my every day watch. I currently have a Date that doesn't have much lume, so maybe it will be fine... Aesthetically, the 16800 face looks a bit more crowded to me than the 16610. How do you feel about the looks of each respective watch? Also, what's the lifetime on the 16610 lume? 15 years?

I just love this watch. I always have. You can really tell just by looking at it that its a Gerald Genta design. Between this, the AP Royal Oak, and the Patek Philippe Nautilus he really did design the most iconic / beautiful luxury sport watches.

I debated between the two, but got a great deal on this one which helped me make up my mind.

That makes sense. Shame that these only got a short run (2005 - 2009?) as they're much classier than anything that came after, IMO.
