I was thinking of buying a vintage 5513 submariner as a daily wearer. Such a solid watch should be able to handle such things, no? I'm thinking of keeping my MUT Moon 39 for special events, but if a vintage submariner shouldn't be exposed to the daily grind, then I am back at square one...

I know it looks odd, but of all the watches I ever had this one is the easiest to read. That's also the reason I kept it for so many years.

This watch was produced from 2007 to 2008. Production was very limited, only 200 in rose gold and 50 in platinum. If you can find one, grab it. I've had a few people contact me by email to find out if I'll consider selling mine to them. A friend in Europe that has one has also been contacted by people that want to buy one. The Tank is an absolute classic that looks as good today as it did when it first was released almost 100 years ago.

A vintage 5513 should be fine for everyday. Don't worry, Submariners can handle whatever you can dish out! Its simply a matter of if you were seeking one of the more collectible Subs like a "Red Sub" or a "Double Red Sea-Dweller" which are both pretty pricey vintage Rolex watches, you will probably reduce their value if they were in mint condition and you beat the heck out of them.

Here's a picture of my formal dress watch. I picked it up for a fantastic price. (It was purchased couple of years ago at a time when it was on sale AND Bing Shopping had a 50% cashback offer going on simultaneously, plus free shipping and no tax). I don't wear it too often, but it always draws compliments.

I'm not quite sure I would say that. I would not wear my 5513 every day, mostly because of the acrylic crystal - if he doesn't want to worry about banging his watch around, he should get a watch with a sapphire crystal as an every day watch. Mine gets a scratch on the crystal about once every 4 or 5 wears.

For this reason I'm happy to have had a 14060 as a daily beater for more than 20 years now, even though I prefer the look of a 5513 with a matte dial. As for the scratches, are they pretty easy to buff out yourself or do you have to take it to a shop/AD?

They're very easy to buff out (a little bit of toothpaste, rub rub rub, here you go), but it's an added layer of maintenance. I just wouldn't recommend for daily wear

I did actually. I picked it up on Timezone, in like-new condition. I was probably going to get something more... reasonable, but for the price I really don't think I can do any better. It has a couple hairline scuffs, but nothing that a polish could not easily remove. It is less than a year old and really looks like it was on a winder for most of it :).

And thanks for the compliments. I really love how it wears.
