What's a quick list of brands which products are totally in-house made?

Seiko and JLC are the only two that come to mind.

Probably easier to ask the specific watch you're looking at if you want insight on its pedigree.

Acidboy...where are you from? Those sound like hefty discounts...are you certain they are authorized dealers? Just because someone is a grey market dealer they don't have to operate in some crummy little back alley shop, they can look VERY nice.

Well, I'm searching for a watch, but it's come to my attention that some watch brands out source to X swiss watch maker to make the guts of their watches, but even if this is respectable or even a good thing, it bothers me. So, which brands are responsible for the entire watch? Or does it vary between watch line within each brand?

If it's too broad a question, I'll find some I like then ask specifically.

YOU should talk. [IMG] An acquaintance got a Port Chrono at a store near Ocean Terminal at around $4,600 couple of weeks ago.

    anybody know about Ball watches?

they got some good looking ones like the Engineer and stuff. very good prices.

anyone care to comment on the brand? thanks.

Brother, Ball Watches was an American brand that was revived by a(from what I've read, Chinese) investment group. I believe the operation is based in Switzerland. A lot of watch fans don't think much of this brand because they feel its just a new company that bought an old name that makes ETA-based watches. But then again, I've also seen several people here in our parts wearing them.

If that's really a concern, buy Seiko. Its comprehensive in-house manufacturing process is not seriously disputed. I understand the view that in-house manufacturing is a sign of superior quality. But keep in mind, this drive led by Swatch & Rolex to become fully vertically integrated is a fairly recent phenomenon. Most Swiss watch firms historically relied on small, independent artisans and craftsman to produce specialize pieces of the watch. The great houses like PP, VC & AP built their reputations while using parts made by these artisans and became renowned for their abilities as final assemblers.
