Yeah the dial is a really nice ivory/cream.

Speaking of which, I'm still mad at myself for not pulling the trigger on this GP. The size is perfect too @ 38mm....but wears like a 40mm.

I also been looking at the GO SS lately..

That GP is stunning, although the GO is no slouch either. :)

I'm very, very conflicted on my next watch purchase. I'm debating between either an IWC Portuguese Perpetual in either rose or white gold, or a Patek 5035 annual calendar in yellow gold or rose gold. They are roughly the same price. The IWC is 42mm and I think is roughly the same as the standard Portuguese, which looks absolutely fantastic on my wrist in terms of size. The Patek is roughly 37mm, and is around the same size as my Rolex Datejust, which is also a very good size. Is SF leaning one way or another on this? I'd probably be happy with either, I just find it very difficult to make a decision, especially as I definitely can't afford both.

If it makes a difference, I'm 27 and I think the IWC is more "youthful," but maybe I'm biased because of its prevalence in the latest "Wall Street" film. My primary mode of dress is also business casual; i.e., sport coats, etc.

Patek Annual Calendar, hands down. And 27? You must be doing something right with your life....

I've been observing the price of a particular watch (JLC reserve de march) and noticed that the price has gone up about 50% in the past few years. Is this the norm?

Looks great although it would benefit from a polish. Does it need a service?

bhal, thanks!

It has been overhauled last month. My watchmaker will polish just the crystal for me. I did not want to polish the case as id rather let the 43 years of nicks be. that picture doesnt really do the watch justice as it looks like there is water damage on the dial but it is not the case. I will have it polished by today hopefully and upload another pic :)

I am very lucky that the dial and all parts are original. I purchased from a collector in China who had great communication and a better offering than ebay in terms of price and product!

The Patek has been discontinued for several years, so I'll be looking for like-new examples, but still pre-owned. IWC will probably be NIB or LNIB depending on what comes up on Timezone.

What other watches do you currently own if you don't mind me asking.

Yes, now it is. But, pre-2002 it wasn't... the prices have been increasing with a intensity not seen before. The high Swiss watches have become overpriced for what they are (except for a very few very complicated examples).

IWC Da Vinci 3750 perpetual
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Rubberclad
Rolex Daytona

I recently had a dream that I owned an Audemars Royal Oak Equation of Time in rose gold, but then I woke up...

Patek Annual Calendar, hands down. And 27? You must be doing something right with your life....

:) Tell that to my ex-wife.

Clearly there are other forces at work, but the Swiss Franc is pretty high right now. I was in Switzerland a few months ago, and everything was crazy expensive.

The exchange rate is a major mitigating factor now, however, it wasn't during the last decade when prices went up dramatically. To put into real world perspective. A PP 'base' Calatrava Perpetual Calendar in YG cost (if memory serves me correctly, I might be a few thousand off) $43,500 in 2000, now it costs $84,400.00. And the price will increase this year.

Sure, real to most of us, but unreal to many.

I was reading, either here or supertalk a thread about people posting their custom watches from a site in Japan/China. You can have your own colors/bands/etc. Anyone remember or have a link? It would be greatly appreciated.
