Yes, but unless you've had those experiences yourself personally, you really can't say for sure. And I'm sure if I were to search hard enough online, I'd find at least one such story relating to Omega, Rolex and the rest of them. Are they all shitty watch companies then?

If you're a little whiner, then probably yes. If we're all adults here, then one bad apple surely doesn't stink up the whole orchard.

My thoughts exactly. Apply that to CW watches and you'll be right on the money.

Yes, but you'll find at least one such horror story from any company in the world, even the truly great watch companies. That's not indicative of the company as a whole or their watches. That proves nothing, in the end.

That is true but that thread alone has a few other complaints from others. I mean that one person got two watches at separate times and had one missing screws in the back on each watch. One reported that he received a watch with 4 missing screws. I mean sure there are complaints for other huge companies but reading such complaints and a negligence as big as missing screws on several watches on one persons purchase is pretty significant. It's not even about whining or being picky about small problems, it is about quality control being horrible that they send out watches with missing screws on a consistent basis and that is just one problem that I used as an example.

Again, I'm sure I could find similar complaints for every company on the planet, not just any watch company, and unless this was you personally, you have no way of verifying what anyone posts online anyway. What you will find with CW watches is that there are far more positive outcomes than complaints. Better you focus on those rather than the few negatives. I'm sure you do that with other companies and other watch companies too.

fwiw, i was quite put-off from reading all the complainst about Sinn's quality control

I bought one and its probably the best purchase Ive made this year.

fwiw p. deux, i have no real opinion of CW but superficially the design are nice

Seiko is a force in the watchmaking industry. They make 10$ , 50$, 100$, 500$, 1000$, 5000$, 100,000$ watches (under sister-companies). And at each price point they are among the top in fit, finish, quality, history, originality. Spirits Premiers GSs Credors their spring drives are the most accurate mechanical watch in existence (albeit its not fully-mechanical). grand seikos gave the swiss cosc a run for their money. they might be the *only* company that can claim to be 100% in-house -- not just in case production and movement, but actually in the screws and oils used in production. few would argue that they arent , as a whole, the grandest watch company ever
I don't know if I can say they're the best watch company ever, but they're pretty great. I'm especially impressed with you get for the price. Sure, lines like the Seiko 5 are really common and very cheap, but the value is undeniable. For $6o, they run really accurately, plus there are so many different designs. I don't know about my last watch, but I don't regret that my first watch was a Seiko 5, not at all. I wish I had the means to get a Grand Seiko Auto GMT though. Until then, I think I'm going to get a Blue Spark as a simple dress watch. And as for the CW issue, I like their designs, but it doesn't really seem to be anything spectacular when it comes to watches. When you're spending so little (relatively speaking) and buying from such a relatively new company, I don't think it's reasonable to expect perfect service and quality. It's shitty about what happened to that guy and it's really not excusable, but at the very least, it's understandable.

Good point there, Trompe le Monde. Sinn is a quality watch company, but there are several negative reviews out there. Does that mean their watches are crappy and that everyone gets bad service? Of course not. The majority receive very good customer service. Just sometimes things don't work out. It shouldn't be that way, of course, but that's how things go sometimes. That wouldn't prevent me from buying a Sinn watch if I wanted one. Or a CW for that matter. The negative comments are the exception, not the rule.

they grey really looks great with the lighter
    904L steel

This makes no sense, I have owned a few 904L Rolex pieces and a number of 316 based watches and there is no color difference whatsoever....on the older hollow bracelet models the bracelets were 316 and the heads 904.

The true measure of a watch company is their customer service department and the structure of their service centers. Like you said each watch company has issues. But honestly hard to imagine customers of an Omega, Rolex, JLC etc. receiving watches missing screws.

Unlikely as it may be, I'm sure it's happened at some point.

Right. But more important is what they do after the defect was brought to their attention. Bad customer service = a shitty watch company, as far as I'm concerned.
Knee jerk is worse than circle jerk. I've bought 4 watches from CW. The CS for me has been outstanding. CW's wife even called me on her Blackberry from her vacation in Barbados to sort out a billing query. Four watches my end, two orders from my buddy. All screws intact. It's a company with a strong web presence. Of course their are disgruntled people. Of course there are mistakes.
