1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I guarantee not one person ever paid 20k for that watch.

From what I see, it is very rare that people pay full retail on any watch these days.

Your welcome. Yes, its very easy to be sold on a discount or as you say to get "Discount drunk." They can give it an MSRP of whatever they want. However, anyone who knows anything about watches would never have bought that watch for anything remotely close to $20K. There are far too many truly great watches for less than that. I'd rather have a watch that is honestly a $3,500 watch all day long rather than a fashion watch with an MRSP that can't be justified or sustained. A $20K fashion watch that sells for $3,500 is a watch that if you ever tired of, you'd probably never been able to sell, much less sell for $3,500 (if you are lucky and it had a lot of gold content you'd be trying to sell it at a pawn shop based on gold weight).

Save up for something you'd really love to own (then look into discounts if applicable). Cheers!

Sorry, but there's no way this thread needs to be a forum on its own or needs any sort of FAQ. The thread title says it all. This thread should be left to using the KISS method as it currently does. Over 3,000 pages long and still thriving, not just surviving. We're not in danger of dying off or anything. Silly suggestion.

    ^ Yeah.

Sorry to belabour the point, but "intimidated" by a forum thread? Yeah, I'm sitting at my keyboard, just terrified of posting on an internet thread. Seriously? WTF is this world coming to?

Just slowly wade your way through it over, IDK, maybe a month or so? You'll be so much richer in terms of knowledge at the end of it. Fuck instant gratification, it never results in anything good or worthwhile.

Then again, I guess SF is a business after all. The bottom line is the bottom line. You do what you have to do to get new customers.

The FAQ/forum ideas are the IMO the equivalent of the 3 o'clock date window - how's that for an analogy? Sure you'll sell more shit, but you'll sell more shit.

What the hell is a FAQ even going to attempt to address? "Davidoff watches are not good"? "JLC is the most underrated large marque"? "Everyone hates Rolex. Then they begin to know better."?

(yeah, I've had a bad Monday :slayer:)

Cool, nice to see that you ended up getting one! I was very satisfied with the Daytona when I first got it, and my appreciation for it hasn't diminished over the intervening three years. The combination of wearability, versatility and quality that it offers is outstanding among chronographs; there really aren't many out there that are rugged and waterproof, yet slim and refined. And the 4130 movement is really something special. Technical stuff aside, it just never seems to look or feel out of place. Especially when travelling, I like a watch that doesn't have to be taken off the wrist. (Edit: Mistyped "4030" instead of "4130", although I'd love to get a Zenith-movement Daytona to go with the newer model.)

And I first read that as "misty-ped", which both baffled and delighted me.

@apropos : If I am indeed invited to draft FAQs for the reincarnate TheWAT, be sure that is already some overlap in our thinking. I shall endeavour to express the special community spirit here, appropriately. (PM and let me know if, how and when you want it, @LA Guy )

I think the idea of a FAQ is a good one. Why wouldn't we want to make it a more welcoming place? For one thing, people do ask if it's okay to post pictures of lower-priced watches in here. The answer is "yes", but how would you be able to tell from reading any random few pages of the thread? Taking pride in being part of an intimidating club is not a good look on anyone.

And as for reading all 3200+ pages of the thread, you must be f*****g joking. Life is way too short. Same thing applies to all the other mega-threads that Fok is concerned about. There may be a lot of good information locked away in there, but make no mistake, it is locked away.

I'm pro-FAQ. We should seek to be as inclusive and welcoming as we can.

I've got a question for the FAQ - why can't I post pictures from work? I think it has something to do with flash but not quite sure...

    Very helpful, I know!

We're already welcoming and inclusive. Anyone can join in and post as it is, and they do so. We've had several new/newer members posting in recent times. It's happening already. No need to change what's already working well. This is change for change sake if ever I've seen it.

What make of watch is a FAQ? It's not a model I'm familiar with.

Love the font on the "units per hour". Gives it a 1960s U.S. industrial feel.
