Free mainstream publicity for "Old-Timey $25K Apple Watch Lookalike", plus a decent chance that some wealthy tech people in San Francisco will buy and wear them.

Perhaps. I still think it represents a paucity of imagination.

I remember seeing the 18k gold Apple Watch and thinking "who the hell would buy that?" And here's Moser charging more than double the price, for a time-only piece.

In the Moser's defence, it won't stop working next year when they give you a compulsory software "upgrade" designed for the new model.

    Perhaps.

As I've thought about this more today, I did wonder who would wear this, honestly? People who wear fake Rolexes or other fake watches are decried. It seems to me if you wear this Moser, you will always be asked if that is an Apple watch or how you like your Apple watch, and so on. And so you will always have to explain that it's not an Apple watch; it is, in fact, something else. A fake Apple watch, albeit one that costs a great deal of money. Perhaps, if you can afford to buy this novelty item, you would not move in circles where you will get asked this question.

Don't misunderstand me: I don't care way or the other about Moser and this watch. It won't make any difference to Apple. The only issue, to my mind, is whether or not it violates any protected intellectual property rights that Apple has. If it does, then Moser deserves to get sued. If not, well, then, good luck to them.

And yet, only one of them will be worth more than its gold weight in 5 years.

The only thing I've found appealing about the whole phenomenon was that Hermes strap.

    It looked pretty sweet, IMO.

I think I would honestly prefer a smack in the head than wear any sort of smart watch, regardless of the brand.

Growing up, someones grandpa used to say (about chronographs), "if I want to know the weather, I'll stick my head outside. I don't want my watch to tell me that." When this whole smart watch craze started it made me think of his comment and laugh.

People with the means that either find it to be a funny FU to Apple, people who enjoy timepieces and see this as one that commemorates the smart watch fad or the start of the smart watch generation, people in the tech industry who happen to collect time pieces, Apple competitors or even Apple employees. I could see any one of these groups of people buying it. Some people may buy it just to be asked if it's an Apple so they can say that it is not. Remember, this is only 50 pieces, not 5,000 or even 50, just 50. I can imagine there are 50 people out there thinking this watch is clever in some way.

I don't view this as a "fake Apple watch" in any way personally, so I can imagine there are probably 50 other people out there who share my view with the means and desire to purchase this.

I would wear it or a smart watch in general for working out only.
    That's it.

It's a novel idea. But my only serious objection is that it's fundamentally not that pretty. Looks very exciting from the back, but you wouldn't want to look at its face every day. Like an East German ladies 100m champion.

The movement is beautiful, but there is nothing else I like about it. I never thought the Apple watch was good looking, so the idea of a fancy mechanical/novelty version isn't appealing. Not to mention at $25,0000 there are plenty of other watches I'd much rather see on my wrist.

Bizarrely, this just appeared in my FB feed. I don't know what it has to do with Moser. Perhaps some kind of implied aesthetic equivalence?

Sort of safe for work, if you don't mind your colleagues pointing at you and laughing.

Since Moser caused all the rage this week, I posted a Moser review video on my channel this morning. I have tons of good stuff on there if you like watch videos

The similar model with the small seconds is the "Mayu". It also has an Arabic number at 12, which I assume was designed to balance out the subdial. I prefer the simplicity of the Monard too. As for the finishing, I guess the Geneva Seal means something.

    Looking great @Steel28

I've been enjoying the BLNR like crazy as well. I always shied away from newer Rolex designs, but I'm smitten with this one
