I just wanted to say that I've lurked hard core in this thread over the years. Read almost all of it. I really appreciate the discussion and I've learned a lot. I've never been put off by any "showing off" or narcissism. It's a thread to look, appreciate, and discuss. And, I thoroughly enjoy it.

Zippy - great assortment. Really like the JLCs!

Shouldaville - congratulations! The SubC LV is a great watch. I wish Rolex would execute more of that deep shimmering dial in other colors. I believe a lot of the new SubC's in YG come with the shimmering blue dial (while old YGs and the WG sub came with the blue matte dial) - I much prefer the shimmering version.

mimo - why am I talking about the YG SubC again???!?

Keith T - unsure if I understood your question. My Nakaya is v2 so it has fins on both ends... But John Mottishaw did "optimize" the nib for my right handed, medium pressure way of handwriting. I FOOKING love Nakaya fountain pens.

Cyc wid it - I am still on Instagram! But I lurk like a ninja.

Thanks Stitchy, Betelgeuse, Frills. I had considered the 39mm Explorer for more all around use, but talks of price increases and my AD having this in stock = bad/good decisions.

Thought I'd post a pic of the vintage Atmos today. Any other Atmos fans out there in TWAT land?

There's one of each in the window of my local AD. Must have been there a couple of years. Hell of a desk ornament! I don't really know anything about them, but they're very beautiful.

I really want an Atmos but can't bring myself to pay what JLC are asking. You can find loads second hand but it is a very high risk purchase. There are a couple of reputable dealers but the model I want with the moon phase hasn't trickled down to them yet.

Love the Atmos! Really amazing idea the temperature fluctuations of as little as a degree or two keep it wound. I think they've been around since the 1920's or 30's. Supposedly, the Swiss government used to give th as gifts to visiting heads of state. Local ADs always had a few in their shops, but said they rarely sold them. I hear they are quite fragile and are easily damaged in transit. A friend bought a vintage one from the 1950's and its fantastic. Thanks for sharing your beautiful and super cool clock with us.

Yes they are really fragile. You have to 'lock' them when transporting. I wouldn't touch a second hand one unless I really trusted the seller.

There's one at Chartwell, Churchill's house - in his study - which the Swiss gave him.

Wore one of my personal favourites today for a lovely languorous Saturday brunch.... Here's my prototype Celadon Celestial with its hand-stitched dial of Suzhou silk embroidery, depicting the classical Chinese painting “A duo of swallows with pear flowers”. Cloth connoisseurs here will love the intricate embroidery, done by the National Silk Embroidery Academy for me.

The engine powering it is no slouch either, featuring the manufacture double escapement B24 freesprung movement with a 5 day power reserve.

The dial was crafted from an image of the painting I gave the embroiderers, who then reduced it to the size of a 3cm watch dial. The technique to mate the embroidered dial to the sterling silver base is a world first.
