Ball have a strong cult following and I have never heard anything negative about them, in fact mostly strong positive opinions from even non Ball owners.

If it is real, working and no major damage/wear then you should easily be able to eBay it for double what you would be paying. If non GMT model maybe a couple hundred less. If excellent condition and a GMT maybe even $1250ish.

So a low risk really.

Check out timezone or watchnet for opinions.

I just went to the Houston Jewelry Center at 6222 Richmond. A real watch expert told me he had never heard of it, but he looked at the timezone link and said that there would be little risk at $400. I'm not an Ebay seller, but I might buy it and sell it here or on one of those watch forums for about $900 if it's worth $1,000 or $1,250 as you say. I like to give people good deals.

Does your friend not want it back? It it were my friend, I'd tell him what it was worth so he could go get it back from the pawnshop, keep it himself or sell it properly if his kid really didn't want it anymore.

It belongs to my friends kid ( I say kid, but he's 32 years old ).

My friend is a major Houston Real Estate Developer, and sadly he's given up on the kid. I've helped the kid countless times and he's told me that the watch is about to be lost to the pawnshop and I can have it for the pawn charges if I want it. I still haven't decided.

The kid has a problem with Peruvian Marching Powder. That's why Daddy cut him loose. Would you get it out of pawn, give it to the kid, and then say pay me when you can?

BTW: The kid is brilliant with advanced degrees ( it's a sad story ), and he knows fully well what the watch is worth. I'm the one that did not. He had researched watches and came across this Ball brand. I never heard of it nor have many I've talked with that wear Rolex's, PPs, IWCs. etc.

Ohhhh, I see. Not at all what I thought. That's sad. Sounds like the kid needs a bottom and a trip to rehab. Unfortunately you can't help until the person really wants it.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of or had any dealings with a website I just came across,

They seem to be selling watches at unbelievable prices and the first thing that came to mind as I was looking through the site was the old adage "If looks too good to be true.......etc".

Am interested in peoples thoughts.

I reckon you should take it off his hands. From the way you describe the whole situation, you seem like a good person. If you buy it from him and he is able to clean his act up, he may want the watch back and this way you will have it there ready for him to buy back.

If he pawns it then who knows where it will end up.

I would normally try to be more gentle but don't be ridiculous. Do you really have to ask?

They are selling watches that cost several thousand dollars for $200.

Both advertise a lot on the various watch forums (timezone, watchuseek, etc.) and sometimes provide better pricing if you email them directly based on seeing one of their postings on the forum. I just ordered a new strap from Freda and expect it any day. Best of luck.

Not if you actually want the money back.

Ball is a good brand. The original Ball watches were made by a railroad engineer for American railway conductors. Their claim to fame today seems to be the really bright gas-filled tubes they use in place of normal luminescent paint.
