99.9% sure that is a no go. I have never seen a UN that looks anything like that, but much more importantly, neither the case-back, inside or out, nor the movement, are stamped UN anywhere. I have handled hundreds, perhaps thousands, of "luxury" watches in all price points and ages, and if there is one string that ties it all together, its that all companies, at all times, made very sure to put there name on their watches, ime. Id stay far away from this guy unless you are just buying it because it looks neat.

I will know for sure after I hear from them again, but I am pretty sure they only keep the dial if they replace it. In other words if they don't replace a tritium dial then they return it to you with with the watch but if they do replace it, then they keep the old one. That is very clear from what the service person in NY actually said to me, but I don't know that she was focused on that distinction so I won't swear it is their policy.

Regardless of the brand, I love the styling of these vintage chronographs. Very tasteful indeed!

So, new strap. Thanks to a pic in this thread, I learned that the strap for the IWC Spitfire Mark XV was pretty much exactly what I'd been looking for for my Mk XV, and I finally got around to see if my local AD could order me one. The Mk XV's were discontinued around 2006 IIRC, but the shop had an old catalogue so we could look up the ordering number.

First a shot of the last brown strap I got for it, from Camille Fournet:

    And a few minutes later...

According to the AD I bought from, IWC's straps are made for them by Camille Fournet as well.

Looks great, Kap! The flat strap is definitely better, and I like the contrast stitching with the bold dial markings of a pilot - seems to tie it all together somehow.

Yes - X-E1 with 18-55 lens first the first series of shots. Can't say enough great things about that camera and lens combination.

iPhone 5S plus some filtering for the "in the wild" shot. :embar:

That XV rocks no matter what, but I agree that the new strap is an improvement.

Thanks guys - it's pretty much exactly what I had envisioned when I went shopping for a brown strap some time ago. Surprisingly hard to find something in the exact shade of brown I wanted, right type and colour of stitching, and in 19mm.

Moo, nice results with the 5S. Do you still have the Ricoh?

    Oh hai!

    Congrats on sourcing the strap.

+1 on the difficulty of finding nice 19mm straps. Short 19mm straps are even harder to come by.

Mine is off the Spitfire strap and now on what I was starting to think was a sorta unicorn of ready made straps: Short, 19mm, Brown shell.

    Found the strap from Nomos.

Ah, too bad. Finding suede straps is really hard though (of course you can always go bespoke). But matte gator is also a really nice (and very pricey, if it's the same material used for shoes) option.

Pilots are why I started to get into into watches. Sold my Cyma and now looking at some military style replacements. Not pilots I suppose. Possibly the Nomos Club, Tudor Ranger or Sinn. I don't need any more chronographs.

I would go with the Tudor Ranger. Love that design.
