Recent SF thread on that same product/topic...

http://www.styleforum.net/t/369326/hermes-sac-a-depeche-whats-the-lowdown

My problem with a splurge on bags I will use for travel is that there will inevitably come that day when I am in some airport restroom and I will have to place that damn thing on the floor and have it make contact with pee from other creatures.  And do I really want to do that to a sac a depeche?  I understand, there are grey areas here since the soles of my Lobbs, Corthays, EGs and GGs regularly make contact with crap on the street and floor, but shoes are made for that express reason.  And along the same lines, I am hesitant to splurge on bespoke shoes.  And my RTW shoes cost a fraction of the MSRP of a sac a depeche.

And yet here I am writing an entire paragraph on why I'm hesitating on getting a sac a depeche. Sounds familiar?  Like how I was convincing myself that "I would never buy solid gold cuff links from Patek" a few months back?  Right.

Sorry for the OT discussion haha!

Sorry for the OT discussion as well...

Just wanted to say. My only qualm with the Sac a Depeches is that I feel that there are a lot of really great bags that do not have the same absurdly high price tag. At that price, I may want to go with SAB or even go with one of the shoemakers. The price on Hermes skins is absurdly high, although they do make absolutely gorgeous stuff.

I think one of the next things on my hit list is a flap top bag from Glaser. Very, very nice.

And you know, I have no problems with beating the hell out of bags--or my shoes for that matter. Leather looks so much tastier with wear. Especially with urine-induced wear.

And it's only a proper one if it's crocodile.  So they say.

(Five minutes ago I thought it was a grooming procedure...)

Worst sentence placement of the day.

I like Longines in the sub-$3K category. I just don't know why they kept the fragments of 3, 6, and 9 on the dial? I assume they mass produce dials and cut out spots for the chromo and day counter when needed. It's a shame because I really like the simplicity, the numbers just make me scratch my head too much.

I don't get precious metal Panerais

as in you dont buy them to own or you dont understand them or both?

i mean, sure its considered a "too/utility" watch, so i know what you mean. but lets face it, its not a watch for the italian navy any longer. its a luxury watch with a utilitarian back ground, and as such, like all luxury watches its fun and luxurious to have them made in precious metals.

Agree.

There are a few watches/dials where this doesn't bother me-- but on that particular watch, it kinda gets on my nerves for whatever reason.

Still a really cool bi-compax look, and it has lots of other nice details...."barleycorn" pattern dial, display back, etc.

gdl used to post occasional pics of his here on TWAT (he wore it on a strap) and always spoke very highly of it.

I really like those Longines. I see the points about the cutout numbers, but that doesn't bother me as much personally. I think they can put out some truly handsome watches. Would love to see them on straps though

I think the new Panerai offerings at SIHH are nice looking, but at these prices... C'MON MAN.

Personally I see PAMs as great watches for 4-8K mark. It gets cloudy at their asking prices from 10-20k, and anything over and you just must be a real fan, or just plain loaded.

BetelG, I'm liken that Longines. When i think of one though I'm always drawn to a classic plain dial with black leather. i can see it in my ed but can't find a pic to share as not at home or office

I... ahmm...

don't like black dials. Only the ones from Panerai's

I don't use a lot of black... I only have one pair of black shoes so a black strap watch is not used a lot. One the Tissot I used to have a black strap and I changed it cause I wasn't using it.
