Wait... wut? Since when did admiration for the original Portuguese Chrono have to be a guilty pleasure? I don't think it a particularly compelling value, but I do think it is an absolutely gorgeous chronograph. Had one back in the day and loved it.

The 7 day in particular is one of the most stunning watches I have seen. I am also a fan of the Ingenieur I just don't like the fact they use ETA movements at their price point modified or not. If they were less, I wouldn't bat an eye to pick one up.

Nice! Honestly, I couldn't imagine the BLNR (or the daytona) without the polished center links. It looks weird to me when I see one that has been modified to remove them.

I think the polished links suit the look of the Daytona much better, the polished links of the BLNR still look off to me and likely always will. I don't really see it as a comparable in terms of polished surfaces, but to each their own with watches. Really like the BLNR on the Sub bracelet though.

Man, I was just admiring my Daytona and staring at it a bit long and the polished links started to get swirl marks.

Shit is unavoidable so you just got to love and enjoy them. One solution is paying $2k+ for a Sub bracelet and switching it up, it doesn't go as well on the Daytona but on the GMT it works well plus you get the great glidelock system.

Speaking of Rolexes, Banks Lyon just lost their Rolex AD status and is having a Rolex sale: http://www.bankslyon.co.uk/rolex-sale-watches

If you contact them they said they will ship to the US but can only accept bank transfer payments. You do have to pay duties but it seems they are willing to lower it a bit so they charge you less. Some Datejusts are going for 20% off (because they remove VAT too), which is a lot for a brand new.

You can calculate the duties here: http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/

You can only calculate about 4-5 times before they ask you to pay so use it wisely. In general though Rolex duty fees cost 6% plus processing fees. The lower the declared value (which they seem like they would to some extent) the lower your duty fees.

Now the best way to buy is if you have the time to fly over there and buy in person, the more you buy the better too as no import and VAT is removed. If you proxy for people, you can make a killing.

Do you guys just hate it here because of it's size? Because this is one of the best watches I'd love to own if my wrist could accommodate the size.

The Port chrono is still one of my all time favorites, (excuse the Dog saliva after a day on the beach)...

I picked up a jewelry box in ebony with three watch winders built in at the annual Asprey sale in London around ten years ago. It was a bespoke order that was rejected for a tiny chip off a rear bottom corner (which I rendered virtually undetectable with a dab of stain and finishing wax.) $5k reduced to $250. I love those kind of deals.

Love the BLNR. Great looking watch! It could be the next Rolex I eventually get. I like it a lot more than the all black GMTs. I suppose the polished links do lend a bit of bling to it. Whether you can live with it is something we each have to decide for ourselves.

Its only the first year or so of 16520 production back in 1988/89 and the vintage manual wind 6263/6265s that have brushed center links and we rarely see those in person. I think we have largely become used to polished center links on Daytonas because they have had them for more than 20 years. GMTs have only had polished center links for a few years.

I don't think the Sub bracelet would go well with a modern Daytona because the current Daytonas also have polished lugs (The GMT still has brushed lugs).

20% seems to be the going discount when a place is selling their remaining Rolex stock after losing a Rolex account. Two shops around me that lost their accounts discounted the stock by 20%, but when I got there the stock was already picked over. Shipping a Rolex to the US can be risky....there are serious customs issues about importing a Rolex to the US. I've already discussed it earlier in the thread so I won't go in depth about it.

Only 20%? That doesn't seem like much, esp if they're clearing inventory and are no longer an AD. I had always assumed guys who have a good relationship with an AD got a better discount than that. Maybe not as much as 40% or whatever discount I often see quoted for Omega, but still more than 20%.

So if I get offered 15% on a SubC by an AD without even asking, that's a pretty good deal? In my case, that'd be saving about the equivalent of taxes.

But I still gotta do the math to see what's better :

    CAN MSRP -15% + taxes (about 15%)
or US MSRP - whatever discount + NJ or NY state tax

Twas interseting bc the AD volunteered the discount in a sorta 'Oh, btw if you want the SubC...' when I was just asking if he'd be able to find a NIB 14060M. Fwiw, this happened the previous summer.

15% off on a stainless steel Rolex is a good deal, on a Sub or GMT or Explorer, that is a great deal! People who walk into an AD without any prior relationship will not even get the amount of tax discounted. They either flat out tell you no discount and if you do some dancing then they might start at 2%-3%. On Daytonas, there is no room for discount at all, at least in my area.

Discounts on Omega, Tag, etc... doesn't apply to Rolex and Patek, those two are almost always the exception. When it comes to Rolex, discounts on precious metals could be bigger but it's still small if you compare it to Tag or Omega. For most other brands, 20%-30% should be the minimum and grey market can mark them down to 40% or more.

If you are in Canada, buying across the border means you shouldn't be paying tax. Many buys from reputable sellers in watch forums, sellers like DavidSW or Justrolexes who can often give bigger discount on brand new watches with warranty cards. I'd go that route first and see how they can help you out before going AD if you want the max discount as possible. Some sellers also reside/do business in NY so you can do a meet-up and inspect the watch in person.

Thanks! Looks like they don't offer it anymore. Do you know of any other similar straps?

That doesn't sound right. You will pay duty on all watch purchases. I believe you pay GST on new watches but I am never 100% sure on this. I assume if you are in Ontario or Quebec provincial tax gets added also. The only tax you are avoiding is the state tax.

My last cross border purchase for a used watch worked out to 5% which I believe was duty only.

My search continues for BlackXRoseGold dress watch and this week I am looking at the GO Sixties.

Definitely cheaper than VC, Moser, A Lange, etc... But there seems to be something off about this watch that I can't quite figure out, I am not sure what it is but it's just not capturing me the way other clean dress watches in this color combo does or any rose gold case really. Funny thing is I really like this watch in regular SS case whether it's the white dial with gold index, black dial and even the blue dial but with this, there's just something off. Is it just me?

What do you guys thing about this one?

They shouldn't have discontinued the PML in BxRG combo.

Speaking of this combo, seems the Cellinis are arriving in stores now. Got to check it out.
