    Gaz,

Your Patek is beautiful [IMG] [IMG]

LOL its a real classic. The 5124 incorporates Patek's new rectangular movement, which was introduced about two years ago in response to critism that Patek was putting its round 215 movement into rectangular cases.

Its a great companion piece to my other Patek, the 5111 Gondolo, which has been discontinued. The 5111 has a very nice art deco design and a very complicated case structure but alas, it contains the round 215 movement with no see through back.

They are all gorgeous in their own ways. The Patek is an understated classic. The Gauthier has elegant and original lines, and a truly stunning movement. The Sarpaneva is just amazing, but not something I'd wear, I'm all about classic lines. The MIH is beatiful in a vintage Danish Modern sort of way.

I think the Gauthier may be my favorite, but ask me again in 5 minutes.

    Is it still your favourite???

Romain is an amazing fellow. He's a young bloke (aged abour mid 30s). 5 years ago, he decided to start his own watch brand but only after completing his MBA. He is not a watchmaker but rather a micro engineer who previously programmed CNC machines for a large movement maker. He started designing and prototyping the Prestige in secret, initially ordering certain parts under a false name and working weekends on a borrowed CNC machine to build others. Took him close to two years to come up with the overall design and another six months to refine it. He came on to the scene about 18 months ago and has really made an impact with his engineering approach to watchmaking while respecting tradition by insisting of the highest standard of hand finishing. As you can see, his finishing is equal to if not better than Patek's. The frosted finish you see on the bridges is achieved completely by hand! The watchmaker gently applies diamond paste and diamond dust until the frosting is achieved. According to Romain, the frosting remains fine even when inspected under a high powered microscope. My piece took 9 months to complete.

I love the complexity of the dial. The Korona actually comes in three flavours, the K1 has a solid dial, the K2 has the skeletonised dial and the K3 has a skeletonised dial with an awesome moonphase design.

While I think this is awesome, I went with the K2 because I just love the cleaner look of the K2 dial and didn't want to clutter it with the moonphase. I also didn't see the point of having a moonphase without the date function.

    Gaz

Functionality be damned (moonphase w/o date), I don't think I've seen another dial layout where the moonphase just makes sense.

And that's a great collection you have. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the info. How thick is the 5124? - Patek's website only provides the thickness of the caliber.

Its about 11mm thick. The case is curved so its a very comfortable watch to wear. Having said that the K2 and RG have been getting the most wrist time at the moment.

Depends on what you had in mind. Stepan is pretty flexible and will try to accomodate requests. Having said that, he offers a range of customisation that he is willing to perform. I did ask him whether he could do the moonphase in rose gold rather than white gold. He said "no". Perhaps I could have been more persuasive.

    Cheers
