That is true of every watch then. And plenty of people will notice. Whether you care or not is up to you.

My initial thought also, but swap the bracelet out for a black leather strap and, hmmm...

    Still no.
It's a big black sports watch with a steel bezel.
    What are you guys thinking?
Either you care about whether your watch is consistent with black tie or you don't.
If you don't care, then do what you want. If you do care, then you shouldn't wear that watch. it is a sports/tool watch. That it happens to be a Rolex simply means it is more expensive than a cheap sports watch. But is is still no different than wearing expensive workboots or sneakers with black tie. If you think that is a cool look, then go ahead. But don't think that you are wearing a dress-appropriate watch.

I have a hard enough time with sports watches and suits. Sports watches and formal wear makes me go positively cross-eyed.

Borrow dopey's Minerva and treat him to a nice matte black croc strap for it.

I think he was using "formal" as short-hand for "business".

Yes, my bad. Suit and tie. Not black or white tie.

Oh. That is still a little sporty for more formal business suits, but not too much and not a big deal. I would certainly be ok wearing it to the office, but would wear a cleaner, more elegant watch for something in a more formal setting.

Thank you DINO - your insight and opinion much appreciated. Happy to return the favour if you need any advice on high end-shoes.

As promised, the Montblanc I wore into London today..

Scott - how about just a good old Rolex Datejust? I started out with that and I bet a lot of people do. It goes great with a suit and great with shorts.

Some people will say its a sport watch or a tool watch and you shouldn't wear it with a suit. But I think that is a pretty narrow view.

FWIW, I don't care for two tone watches. But that's just a personal preference.
