Now that I've been wearing my new-old pocketwatch, I'm thinking of getting rid of my wristwatches for the financial preparation of getting a high quality technical pocketwatch. Mind, not a complicated one but one with technical refinements such as a karrusel or something.

A pocketwatch is rather more comfortable to wear.

A nice pocket watch, esp. an old marque, can impart a lot of class to the wearer.

Thought I'd have this repaired. My only watch, which I've not worn in years, a hand-me-down from a great uncle I never met. One hand had fallen off, dome was cracked, strap was a nasty fake-gold expanding bracelet. [IMG] Cost about $180 to do, which is probably more than it's worth, but never mind - I like it. Planning to buy a better strap when I can afford it - This one was only $15. (Edit: The mottling on the face doesn't look as bad in person)

Is it SoCal2NYC interesting or merely captivating?

The watch-chain and fob are both antique; I believe the citrine fob is English; the tortoise chain, French.

This is perhaps the most distinctive Panerai and one that would fit with a more traditional wardrobe IMO. A bit pricey though.

It appears to be a facsimile copy of the vintage Rolex Panerais.

It appears to be a facsimile copy of the vintage Rolex Panerais.

It's a re-edition by Panerai of a 1930s Radiomir with California dial. Many of the 1930s Panerai watches housed a Rolex movement, some others housed an Angelus movement. The watch design and case manufacture were done by Panerai (a military tool maker) while the movements were outsourced

What is the story behind the California dial? That is, the odd combination of Roman and Arabic numerals, and plain markers.

If it's just decorative, that's an odd feature for a "tool watch".

I've always liked the look of the Radiomir. It looks more harmonious than some of the other Panerais.

The deco face on this one makes it a favorite. I like deco when it is well done.
