I suppose that sort of thinking is why Rolex has such a negative image to some people. It is the watch that people save for to show to themselves that they have "made it".

I am with ShawnBC and if a watch sings to you buy it, do not wait to buy a SF approved watch, recommended by people you only know online and will never meet..

I’ve wanted a Rolex for so long I haven’t even thought about anything else. But I’ve found myself being drawn to Omega more over the last few months, probably because of Bond to be honest. They suit my aesthetic more and aren’t as obvious as Rolex. What do you all think of the 300m from the Pierce Brosnan era? Very tempted.

Unless you truly love it, skip it. Its definitely a rather dated looking piece, and I've never really liked it's bracelet or hands (but that's subjective). If you were going to buy that model, I would search for another...in the 3rd photo some of the bracelet links appear to have quite a bit of "Stretch." Personally, I think later versions of the Seamaster are better looking.

More importantly, if you have always wanted a Rolex, then don't buy a substitute. The Omega might be exciting while it is still new to you, but once the newness factor wears off, you still will not have the watch you truly wanted. A friend of mine used to always buy things, that seemed like a deal compared to the items he truly wanted. However, he would eventually realize he still wanted the other items. So he would sell the item, lose money on the depreciation, and if the item he truly wanted had a price increase then it was really costing him a lot more to finally purchase the item he truly wanted....so don't be that guy. As for the idea it isn't as obvious as a Rolex. The people that would generally notice a Rolex, will notice an Omega. Average non-watch people don't really notice watches. Good luck with whatever you decide.

What kind of stock exactly? The buzz seems to be that stock replenshiments are happening with more frequency.
Deep Sea
CHNR GMT
Sea Dweller
Date Just 41’s ( clean dials)
A multitude of Daytona’s in a variety of choices ( all above list).
My cousin (local) said you can get pretty much anything if you “pay to play”.

Some very good pros and cons written here. The reason is because of Goldeneye (my favourite Bond film, though I'd buy the Automatic). I've always liked the look of it, but haven't researched into it properly until recently.

I'm not thinking about using the Omega as a substitute, but rather its own being altogether. I'd prefer to get both Submariner and Seamaster but that time will come.

If you are a "Goldeneye" Bond era fan? and played the game? Think that Brioni nailed it? Craig isn't the right choice?

-Yes. Get the Omega.

Incidentally - plenty of stock of Rolex Sport Models in Hong Kong last week.
Offered a Deep Sea at list from an AD.
Daytona's at way above list available.
Similar story in Macau, with 2 AD's offering 5%
Nothing in Cuching, Malaysia. They had a couple of GMTs but were for “display only.”

One could argue that the more direct comparison to a Submariner, in terms of a modern (i.e. non-vintage) Omega diver-- would actually be the Planet Ocean. But again, the advice here is sound: buy only what you really love.

Having said that, I'm a long-term owner of the automatic version of that "Brosnan" Seamaster (the 2531.80) and have always enjoyed wearing it, received plenty of compliments on the watch over the years, and honestly it might be one of my favorite pieces in my so-called "collection". In fact I had mine serviced by Omega sometime back to get it freshened up and really kinda missed it while it was gone. (My current lineup does include some Rolex, along with other brands, and a couple of other Omegas as well).

As for the specific watch shown in the photo previously posted: yes, it clearly does have some bracelet stretch which may be a concern. I would have to say personally that I like the faded/yellowing hands and hour markers on it. YMMV. And quartz vs. auto...I will leave that discussion aside :colgate:

Here's an old pic of mine just for fun. I would also add that that I've never considered this to be a true tool watch (as there are much better choices available) but it's been a great "desk diver", and admittedly the Bond connection was a factor for me as well at the time of purchase.

Thats a beautiful watch! You’re not helping my case here! I did try on a Planet Ocean in the store but didn’t like it one bit, it felt too large on my wrist.

Oh, cool I'm glad you liked it ... but I'm not necessarily trying to talk you into (or out of) a particular choice :colgate: Just wanted to add my two cents on the topic and give a perspective on ownership.

Hell, I don't even disagree with the common criticisms of the watch, all of which are pretty fair (skeleton hands are less visible, the design screams '90s, bracelet can be a scratch magnet and a b*tch to polish.) You just have to figure out if it really smiles back at you or not.

And yeah, that PO does look massive. Not sure of your wrist size, but I believe Omega has offered multiple versions, so maybe that's a larger (45mm?) model and perhaps a 42-ish would suit you better.

Regardless...enjoy the search, whichever direction it takes you.

The only thing I'm not keen on is that there's no taper on the bracelet. It's a very chunky and dated watch and probably wouldn't look twice if it wasn't for Bond or that blue dial.

My wrist is 7.25 inches, what size should I go for? around the 40/41mm mark?

While I am still hunting down yet another vintage Omega chronogaph (I really like the smaller 35 mm ones from the 60s, but also some of the slightly large, 38mm ones from the 70s), I found this, which I really like. Warning, if you don't like streetwear, probably you want to avert your eyes.

The digital, all titanium GMWB5000TCM-1 especially catches my eye.

Passed on a vintage MR-G yesterday, because you can't see the 6 and 12.

their stuff is good.

If i didn't care about Time itself? would kop.

@LA Guy The Digital one is sweet. how much is that bad boy?
Edit: Actually, I like both. but feel the Analogue would look much nicer with less Dials, and the Calendar at 3.

Personal preference really... but yeah, I would say that's a sweet spot for most current sports models in terms of what's generally acceptable. I mean, almost everybody loves the Speedmaster Professional, and it's 42mm. Others may prefer the FOIS, or the "reduced" version depending on their tastes and individual body proportions.

Of course it's notoriously difficult [to dispense] these kinds of judgments, because it also really depends on the height of the watch, not to mention the case shape...it's very much an inexact science, so to speak. And opinions will vary widely on what's too big or small. One guy's "nice wrist presence" is sometimes another guy's "that watch is wearing you".
