Difficult choice between a 5513 and a 5512.

A difficult choice... between two virtually identical watches?!

I know, I know - I'm just not a fan of Rolex to that extent. They make nice watches, but I couldn't be bothered digging into the minutiae of the differences between slight variations and updates of the same watch. However, I do understand that some people really enjoy it.

Melbourne Airport - EMPTY Cases.....
While Melbourne may be a small market, comparatively, our cases are empty as we get a lot of traffic from Asia - those who all too commonly see their domestic cases completely empty. In fact, 80%+ (probably 90%+) of the Australian luxury market is to facilitate visitors. Collins St (& the casino) and Sydney’s Castlereigh St would be empty themselves if we didn’t have economic tourism! We’d still only have a hole in the wall Cartier and a kiosk Hermes etc.
I’m more than happy to see empty cases, as they are funding the influx of luxury options.

I didn't mean airports. If first world airports were considered cities, they'd be the richest cities, per capita, probably by a decent margin.

I get what you mean. I've never been a Rolex fan up until a few years ago when vintage wasn't such a hype. I have been able to buy well. Rolex to me was the typical "marketeer gets a first paycheck and buys a Rolex to show off". Until I discovered more about the brand. I love them but I hate the hype. And the small differences between pieces is what I like about vintage stuff.

Today the Yves Klein dial, one of my favourites.

What online retailers can you recommend for a high-end watch? I am interested in buying a Panerai and there is one dealer within 2 hours of me. I am thinking of going the online route instead.

There are a ton at grey dealers. Prestige Time has a ton, for example. The discounts are not as high as for some other brands, but it's not nothing either - 10-15% off retail.

Good article. I love my Sinn 856
I have a Muhle Glasshute and an Archimede and my wife has a Meistersinger. Maybe not worthy of this thread. Sinn are excellent. Glashutte Original is pretty awesome as well.

I need to be talked out of buying a yellow gold Cartier Tank Solo...I don't need a true "dress watch" all that often, and I think this watch would be the perfect choice. Quartz so I don't need to worry about winding or re-setting, gold, but under/around $5k. The watch nerd part of me thinks I'm crazy to be considering a quartz, but I think it's almost perfect.

You guys need to go to smaller markets in say, Canada. Brunei is full of both money and those who want to spend it.

Then you have the curious case of the Rolex Boutique in DT Vancouver where they report more sales than inventory Rolex has actually supplied them ??

lol. I have no idea. Lugaro in Victoria, which is a much smaller market, had Explorers last time I was there.
