I can see how that makes accuracy less of an issue, but I still hoped Seiko would have taken more pride in the whole timekeeping aspect of this timepiece. As I understand it, this has a Grand Seiko level movement, but since it isn't an actual GS they don't want to regulate it, offering it with a +15 to -10 seconds per day accuracy - at a price of $5000.

That does indeed sound like crazytown.

However, they are evidently making a calculated judgement given the abundant proof of the absolute mediocrity people are now more than willing to pay for at this price point (especially given that higher-tier Seiko have now firmly entered the hOt/trendy category).

Not to mention they know far better than any of us how much less discerning and demanding the typical non-Japanese buyer is going to be.

Two-tone datejust is Rolex's best seller. Rolex sells a lot of these to women. Rolex is not a brand for race car-drivers, explorers, or pilots - it is a brand for Sharon in accounting who wears too much perfume and rocks a 31 mm two-tone datejust.
