It is all those weird details on the 5065 that make it more charming for me. The tritium I don’t care for. But the nudged in 3 and the off kilter hour markers are part of the appeal to me. Even the rubber strap that has an edge between the lugs is great. It is the ultimate non-Patek Patek. 5065J is my favorite watch ever. Maybe two years ago I saw one for less than 30k US and that was up from 25k within a few months. I thought it was so overpriced. Now I really kick myself for not grabbing one back then. Haha. So it goes. Congrats on the 5167 though. I think it beats any Daytona 10 out of 10 times. Honestly I think chronographs are among the dumbest complications. Why bother with a complication no one ever uses?
Not true. My wife timed my mile on my PP5170G during my 53rd birthday.

That is an impressive mile. But did she capture the finish time by using her phone or did she actually stop the chronograph using the pusher? The irony of it if you didn’t actually get to see the finish time recorded on the watch itself but had to look at it on her phone.

Good question. I don’t remember how she did it. My guess is that she didn’t stop the watch as my stride is exactly on the finish line. Might try to drop those last 13 seconds in the fall but I doubt I’ll get there as I trained pretty hard for that mile. A pacer may make the difference.

After talking to my favorite watch dealer -- the talking included a bit of prodding -- I decided to get a JLC Master Ultra Thin with Small Seconds (in rose gold). The case is a whopping 39mm (felt larger to me). I went in today and when I tried it on I looked a tad like Edith Ann (older guys may remember) wearing a big watch. If not Edith Ann then one of those old people (yes, I'm 70) who wears an extra big watch due to poor eyesight. Just didn't work for me. I also decided that gold doesn't work in my world these days. Too flashy ... except when I'm wearing a suit ... and I already have the perfect watch for that.

I guess I'm still looking ... or maybe I have all the watches I'll ever really want. I certainly have more than I need.
