Hey gang, wanted to ask for some advice. Gonna have a nany in September, looking to celebrate.

I'm looking for an everyday dress watch, maybe <$10k. Would love a complication in addition to time and date, with GMT being my favorite. 38-40mm. Steel case with a leather strap are also heavily preferred. Open to used as well.

So far, I'm interested in the following... Please lmk if there's something I'm overlooking, especially used in my price range.

JLC ultra thin moon

IWC portofino chrono or portuguese

VC fifty six (would have to be used, but these might be too new?)

I really like the JLC ultra thin moon and the Vacheron Constantin.

I like the Polaris. Versatile. Cool. Relatively affordable. Beater.

My preferences would be VC Fifty Six as the first choice and JLC UT Moon as the second. I'm not a fan of the other watches.

I love the JLC Master Control Collection Sector Dials. My pick of the three is the chronograph.

The MUT moon is a really nice watch but wears pretty big because of the face, at least on my wrist. I like the VC FS but this one unfortunately no Geneva Seal afaik.

Nice, always like seeing photos of this one. Didn't you have it on a strap at one point? Which do you like better?

I love the JLC Ultra Thin Moon. I've said before I think it's currently one of the best looking watches out there in that 'style'.

@troika - you and I have discussed this before so you know where I stand. JLC MUT Moon is my choice - however, the VC56 is an interesting alternative.

That said, they are two very different watches. The JLC MUT Moon is an unimpeachable dress watch. The VC56 is a great everyday watch with some modern sensibilities.

My only beef with the VC56 is the date window.

Also, if you go IWC, this is, in my opinion, the only correct option:

Also, kind of relatedly, this video from Jenni Elle (I like her videos) provides an interesting perspective on JLC.

I have owned my JLC for nearly a decade, and have only had one person ever comment on it. JLC makes a serious watch for a reasonable sum of money and has designs that are about as close to perfect as you can get. But they can come off a little cold, and you have to be OK with that.

I love the idea of the IWC Portugieser chronograph, but it wears much larger than its listed 41 mm size due to the almost non-existent bezel. It looks like a dinner plate on my 7" wrist.

Agreed completely. Everytime I see one I am reminded of the watch we got for my grandfather when he was 95 and had macular degeneration. It looked like a Flava Flav clock on his wirst...

I really love Blancpain dive watches but love them a bit less less since Vlad P. started wearing them.
I had mine first, so I think I'm good.

Great quality, but I have just never been able to fall in love with BPs. I've tried a few on for fun, but for what they cost there is always something else that I'd rather own.
:(
