Seiko relaunches its "King Seiko" line with a re-edition (of sorts) of a King Seiko from 1965:

The pricing seems rather ambitious. It looks as though, with the price increases for Grand Seiko watches over the past few years, Seiko now wants to position King Seiko as an intermediate option between the regular Seiko and Grand Seiko lines.

There are lots of King Seiko watches on eBay in very good (sometimes excellent) condition. This does look very nice and I'm sure it will sell (it's a limited edition of 3000 pieces), but it's a bit of a stretch to charge US$3000 for this version when you can get a very nice original for around a fifth of that price.
I like the design very much but the movement sucks.

I like the new KS quite a bit and may reach out to my preferred dealer to see if they'll get one but I do agree with some of the other comments in that it would be better without the date.

Maybe they'll make sure the quickset date function eventually fails like on later models of the King Seiko... to give it some more authenticity.

Yes, please do. Did you say you went with the black dial?

From their website pics, I really like the update they gave that one, considering how a lot of re-editions can turn out to be so disappointing.

Agree and it looks better to my eyes as years pass. This is a 20 year old watch, which I bought with my relocation allowance into my first job. Had to save for a couch etc in the following few months. I am glad that I set my priorities right at that time.

The other day, my 9 year old son wanted to check my watches. When I asked his favorite, he pointed to the Pepsi (former Coke). I am concluding that the design and proportions are universally liked!

I like ‘em both but the vintage ones are best when they are still vibrantly coloured like that one. I don’t much like the pink patina that can happen on the older bezels.

Agree. This pic is a perfect advertisement for getting your watches serviced with genuine replacement parts.

The watch is fantastic in the metal. Substantial yet wearable. Definitely worth the pre-order price. With eight watches in the regular rotation, I’m out of the watch collection game. Famous last words I know!

That comment at least warrants a pic of all 8, right?

Will try to post a SOTC soon. Speaking of which, we need a lot more of those in this thread.
