    To clarify my post I above, I wouldn't call the look of the finishing "mediocre" though.

    Anyway, we have an Autavia Cup winner:

    Wanted to get some thoughts on this vintage Explorer. 34mm that looks legit to my untrained eye. While I want a cleaner dial and a 36mm (I actually just wish Rolex would do a "heritage" line, though with slow releases for my bank account's sake), I thought this was a bargain:

    Price was $2900. Curious as to opinions on value (or otherwise) here.

    I like everything about this, except that jarring diagonal date window. I am particularly fond of the marcella-like backdrop: is there a horological term for this?

    Agreed on the date window. In my opinion, it isn't needed. The term I read for the backdrop is "barleycorn".

    Congrats @Belligero !

    As for that movement picture. It looks cleaner than my Hamilton movement but some of the edges have some rough spots which are not seen on the Big 3. I would guess it would be something like an ETA movement that has been refinished but like others have said, it would be interesting to learn more about it.

    I was feeling a little Speedy Monday this morning. It hasn't gotten much wear lately...

    Thank you sir, but to clarify I DID NOT buy that Explorer. Was eyeing it up last night when it was listed and it sold overnight. I just would like opinions as to the value at that price. Seemed like a nice price.

    Nice Speedy btw. Coincidentally the other watch they had that I was looking at was a 90s Speedmaster that was 38mm.

    Beautiful, I love Venice and was fortunate enough to spend 3 weeks there for work in 2014.

    Also, congrats on the upcoming "MTO". Kids are pretty cool!

    Wait! There's a 38 mm Speedy?!
    @tifosi Why didn't I know this?

    Speedmaster reduced. It's a much unloved reference - very cheap to buy if you like it.

    Automatic, as opposed to the traditional, manual wind movement.

    If that's the one that Blaugrana is talking about, it certainly is, as Joenobody0 notes, quite unloved (at least amongst watch enthusiasts).
