Just sold my 1815 up/down. Finally received a half decent offer so jumped on it. On to bigger (actually smaller) and better things!

It doesn’t get much better than that, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing its replacement. :)

I had the Commando II from Tutima for a couple of years. Great watch on either a Bund strap or the titanium bracelet

Tutima has nice Pilot watches, but for obscure brand they are priced too high.

How tough do you need it to be? Truthfully, there is no mechanical movement that is magnitudes more robust than any other. Differences tend to be incremental. Movements are intrinsically fragile and do not deal well with shock (such as when swinging a golf club).

If you need to really beat on the thing, go quartz.

Not that tough, just bumps and bruises. I think I'll go with a hand wind. I mean, those old military watches took a beating and kept on trucking. I mean, I demonstrated a left hook with an old IWC on, way more acceleration then on a gold saying, and people worked with mechanicals on before the days quartz, so it's not like they are that dainty.

That said, for actual rugged work, I use a G-Shock Mudman.

Too much noise. We'll just end up with some rosegold daytona wristshots.

Would actually be pretty awesome to see @LA Guy with one of the pave face rose gold Yachmasters.

I'm confused. Do you disagree with that assessment?

Cost the same. The Rolex actually looks like a better deal as more gold content.

I actually like the look of the Daytona more. I am intrigued by the dial on the Grand Seiko, but I feel that having a date window on a dial like that is a shame. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why that dial needed anything more than batons and hands.

The Japanese obsession that if the movement originally comes with complications (PR and date) then they must always be included. I'd have them removed both and be happier with it. Ideally though mod the current movt so the PR is at the back like Moser. On a separate note, I actually miss the date more now when wearing one for work. As only one of my dress watches has a date window, today I have to settle with:

I've heard conflicting reports about BALL. How is their stuff? I have very limited experience with their products.
