That’s definitely an approach. Super helpful. Thanks.
My pleasure. Thank you for your service. Waffle House offers discounts to vets. Admittedly I am jealous that I lack access to such benefits.

Maybe a Longines heritage piece would suit your fancy. They did that Calatrava style sector dial a few years ago that was reasonably priced and quite handsome. Some other similarly good looking pieces that don’t break the bank.

Omega has done some gorgeous reissues recently as well. But maybe 3-4x the Longines price.

I recommend against vintage for your use case.

I'm looking to get a Patek Annual Calendar.. any thoughts on pricing for this on the second hand market? https://www.bqwatches.com/product/22719 found this one but not sure if its priced well,

Would also be interested in a nice nautilus... any suggestions?
That seems at least 30% above what that watch should cost used. Ebitdaddy would probably get another 10% off that. But definitely a sick watch.

Longines is daft.
With a 5k budget yeah better take the vintage route.

I red an interesting article in Le Figaro.

Paris police created a few years ago a dedicated task force (against watch theft). As they have a certain sense of humor they called it GMT (Groupe Montres Tourisme).
They have good results in Paris :

In 2021, 275 luxury watches (of 10k + value) were stolen.
2022: 220
2023: 90
2024: 60

Any strap ideas for the Kudoke? I have a dark nubuck alligator coming from TerryCrafted.

Need something brighter for spring/summer. Right now it’s on the only 20mm curved strap I had sitting around that kinda fit my wife.

The decrease aligns with aftermarket watch prices...

I really like all the heritage reissues that Longines has recently done from their archives. But I can never bring myself to pick one up. Every time I say maybe for a particular one, I start comparing it to what I could get if I added a little more to the budget. It's kind of in a no man's land pricing wise nowadays. More expensive than true entry level and priced just below what some better options go for second hand. Used Grand Seiko in particular.

Longines is one of those brands where you can still get 20% off at the AD if the piece has been out for awhile. And it seems to depreciate decently if you want to pick something up used. But I agree, there are several pieces priced at the $4K - $5K mark that make no sense.

TONY HAWK PRO TIP

BCC ALL the dealers in your geography on one email
Tell them you're ready to pull the trigger but are a grizzled collector that is used to good discounts

You'll get ~20% - 30% off most watches. And most retailers run at ~40% - 60% margins depending on the brand.
