The son and heir has started taking an interest in presenting himself in a more adult and professional manner after an investment bank internship this Summer. We had some time to kill out at Tysons Corner before a flight home from Dulles and went through most of the watch boutiques. He initially expressed interest in Breitling, which I hemmed and hawed about as noncommittally as possible, and we spent a good amount of time at Omega trying on Speedies and Seamasters. Then we ran into a very good SA at Lenkersdorfer who, with a wink and a nod from Dad, subtly steered him around to Tudor as a solid choice for a starter watch that doesn't absolutely shout "I'm overprivileged."

Anyhoo ...

Good stuff. I'm actually becoming interested in the Breitling B01 42mm chronograph. If I can ever get to Key West (today marks the second week in a row we've cancelled our trip after arriving at the airport because of a canceled flight resulting in missed connection), I am going to check one out in person at an AD by our resort.

The Tudor looks good. Last month we flew into Miami for a day on our way to Islamorada. Had brunch at the Aventura Mall and walked around a bit. There is a Swatch store, so I took my 8 year old in to look around. He thought the MoonSwatches were "weird". Here is what he picked out, a FlikFlak watch. He loves it.

Breitling has a few classic pieces, but to me most of their watches just come off as a flashy and not much substance. In addition, when I see their prices, there is almost always something else from another brand that I'd rather own.

Absolutely love that photo!!! I also think it's hilarious that your son thought the moonswatches were weird. Good for him finding something that he loves and kudos to you for starting him on his first watch journey so early! :fistbump:

Now that your son is in IB, you should be making him buy you watches!!!

And congrats, the Tudor looks great. I love it.

On a more serious note too, IB is a great job to start with. Builds a solid foundation and opens up so much...can do whatever you want after spending ~2 years in IB.

I own a 41mm no date Sub and a Batman (I've always preferred the oyster bracelet to the jubilee). I've had the Batman longer, I just got the no date Sub a little over a year ago. By regularly participating in an IG "What watch are you wearing today" stories I actually rotate through all my watches regularly.

Initially, I wanted a Subdate with green ceramic bezel, but the dealer surprised me when I went in for a repair and out of the blue offered me the new no date Sub. I took it and fell in love with it. I'd say in the last year I've worn the no Date Sub far more than I thought I would. I think it's an often overlooked gem in the collection. It might not get the attention that Daytonas or Pepsis get, but I think its a great watch. When I first got into collecting watches, I thought it was just for people who didn't want to spring for date model. However, I love the symmetry of the dial without a date. It's clean and perfect looking to my eye. I think if function matters, and you travel a lot or have friends in other timezones, then the GMT is a more useful function than having roughly an extra 200 meters in water resistance. Still both are great watches.

What would you spring for if you had to pick one?

I don't think I'm going to use the GMT function at all because I have the major timezones I interact with memorized anyways, and even when I had the GS SBGE275 as a daily in Mexico for ~6 months, I think I used the GMT function once. For me, the pop of color +jubilee makes the Batgirl super tempting > the no date. I'm not huge on the cyclops though and love the symmetry of the no date...

I own a batman and no date sub, definitely wear the no date sub more. Out of all of my watches the tudor blackbay pro gets the most love at the moment. If I trusted vintage I would have went with the 1655 but for the money the tudor is a great option to have.

Interesting! Yeah agreed 100% on Tudor. I sold a 5513 from 1966 I had, and feel like stealing my wife's bb54 100% scratches the vintage sub itch without the vintage sub stress. I live in Vancouver so it rains ~70% of the time and it's super humid. Not a good combo for vintage.

Wait. This has got to be a joke, right?

Why lol

I love GMTs, but I have to say the no date Sub has really surprised me with how much I love it. If you aren't using the GMT function, and you don't like the cyclops...then I say definitely go no date Sub! If you can do without the pop of color, it's cleaner, less expensive, has the glide lock clasp that I think should be standard on all of their watches, and it's all you need without the stuff you don't want/use. So if I were you I'd definitely go no date Sub!

Anyone own a batgirl and no date sub? If so which do you wear more?
I had both at the same time and they received roughly equal wear. I got rid of both for a 5-digit Pepsi (which I wear more than any other watch now) because I thought they were redundant. My slight preference was the batgirl over the no date...

A RL friend who happens to be into watches has batgirl and sub and he wears the sub 80-90% of the time. He has really soured on the batgirl over time, doesn’t like case as much and finds it too showy.
