Approved by Cartier! Got everything I asked for, except that the cabochon must be a ruby.

So now we are discussing options for the hands. I’m pretty sure I want them to be dark grey or black instead of blue, but if they can use blackened gold instead of galvanizing steel, I’d be 100% sold.

That's cool. Did they say how long it would be?

I thought the same way about the Aquanaut until I tried one on (as true with the Nautilus). The key things are the thinness and the case finishing. When considering the water resistance achieved, it’s quite something. Also, the potentially military origins are cool.
Well, as you probably do not know, the connections between Swiss military and the "movers and shakers" in the Swiss financial world are strong. On some forae, the dial design of the original Aquanaut has been discussed at length, revealing some details of that connection, incl. the Stern faily.

Congratulations @TheFoo.

I've warmed to the older Aquanaut - that patina.

My tailor has one - it suits his personality so well.

Yeah the vintage ones have really taken off! I like the smaller diameters plus the more pronounced dial textures. Also prefer the non-integrated strap ends.

The new ones have better dial layouts though, with the ‘3’ removed instead of awkwardly squished into place.

I think the squished 3 adds to the charm of the 5065. I stupidly passed on multiple opportunities about 24 months ago for both the steel and gold. I agree with you that once you see the 5065 in person it compelling. It is my favorite watch. Unfortunately that ship has sailed. I’m not willing to pay 100k for it in steel and the one I like best is the yellow gold. Non-integrated strap is key. As are the non-lumed numerals. I’ve written multiple posts over the last couple years about how awesome that watch is. 5167 is cool and it’s nice you got one at retail but 5065 beats it hands down.

As for your Tank special, congrats. I’ll be interested to see how it wears on your wrist. Here’s mine that I’ve posted before from late 80s or early 90s as far as I know. I know you said you aren’t a fan of bracelets but Cartier makes the best designs. You should consider it. You can always put it on a strap and hang the bracelet next to your skateboards.

Oh I have tried on Aquanauts at the behest of one of my former ADs, but they really don't do anything for me. I guess I'm just more a Nautilus person if I were getting a Patek sport watch. I prefer the dial, the case, the bracelet on the Nautilus (although I wish the links were thicker, they almost feel too dainty or dare I say flimsy for daily wear compared to the bracelets of the RO or Overseas). I had Aquanauts readily available to me at one point, but its just not the piece for me.

Congrats! Looks great! I can't wait to see the finished product! I think black or gray hands are the way to go with a salmon colored dial.

Presumably used due to greater symmetry:

4 numerals based on the letter I, 4 based on the V, and 4 based on the X.
