How do people feel about the Cartier Drive? It's been making the rounds on all the blogs, but I suspect this is because of a heavy marketing push and not because of merit.

That said I really like the shape, although could go without the date window. In-house movement too

Thanks! It's the Pontos S diver released a couple of years ago, but our watch group Red Bar Crew collaborated with ML to make ten of these in PVD (design and color choices by good old Adam Craniotes). I believe all ten are spoken for, though. It sold for just under $4k.

Great looking watch and a reasonable price. Congrats on your pickup and let me know if you ever want to let it go!

I tried it out a few weeks ago. I thought it looked better in photos than in person - just didn't sing to me in person. In particular I thought it was way too thin for its diameter - a bit more heft would have been nice, think it got stuck between dress watch and chrono watch sizing.

I tried the Drive on myself the other day. Very, very likable in steel. Too much going on in gold or any of the complications. And personally I hate simple date windows on dress watches too. But the case is great, and although it's a larger watch, it sits nicely on the wrist.

Worth waiting for a nearly-new or massive discount in a year or two. List price, no chance.

It does look good. But if we were playing "guess the maker of Frilly's new watch", that would have a taken a hell of a long time to get to.

Haha, good point @mimo - I try to be unpredictable sometimes...

I like Cariter, and its an interesting case shape, uses their in house movement also found in the Calibre, its very reasonably priced, but when I tried it on a few weeks ago it just didn't sing to me. This watch has a lot going for it, but I hate the date on it. I know this caliber is designed to use a date, but I would rather they closed the date window off and not use it and just give us Romans all around for a more harmonious look. I know Cartier felt giving it a date makes it more marketable to a broader audience, but if they were going to give it a date, I probably would have preferred it if they put the date between 4 and 5 the way they did on the old Santos Galbee XL. I just find the date cutting into part a small part of the 3 annoying.

I am am curious to see if I like the small complication/second timezone version more in person when its released here in the US, around September.

Tyre-kicking this lunchtime at Austin Kaye in London. Wanted to try on a Tudor Black Bay they had in stock. I like the look but the case wore quite large for a 40mm watch and it felt a bit lightweight and insubstantial compared to my Explorer II.

Also tried a GMT Master and Seadweller while I was there.

It does wear larger, but that's likely because it is a 41mm case.
Is your EXII on a bracelet? That will also play into the heft.

Yep. And the BB is a lot of watch for £2K. But I think if I'm going to go for a fun weekend watch to throw on with casual clothes I might stick with the original plan and save up for a Milgauss.

I hate the Internet sometimes - following my post above I thought I'd just take a quick look to see what Milgausses were selling for in the UK. Found an unworn 2016 model (green glass, black dial) for £1000 off the list price with the 5 year Rolex guarantee. Couldn't resist *shamefaced*
