Thanks @Journeyman and @mimo for your input. Yeah, i was also interested /confused by the prices of vintage Heuer, especially Autavia in recent years. Hence my desire to learn more about the Zenith brand.

    My Daytona

No one has ever accused me of being non-traditional, that's for sure!

The Ben Clymer/John Mayer douchefest over the new Daytona on Hodinkee has been getting some great comments on their site and TRF...

I won't say for fear of being rude.

Thanks, Jacob. Yeah, this OQ's been places, as I find it goes with everything. I see you got yourself a Daytona lately; that one's still definitely a favourite of mine — nice! For me, the all-steel version is a more visually-coherent package than the new ceramic one, whose bezel doesn't make as much sense with the polished bits. @SteveH35's "avoid recency bias" watch advice is sound.

(By the way, the new pretend-race-car-speedometer Air-Bro certainly demonstrates this principle. The Deepsea is meant to be a bit ridiculous, but a supposed pilot's watch based on an automotive theme with a diver's handset, the non-Paraflex 3131 movement and a totally botched dial that uses surplus Explorer numerals is such an obvious parts-bin assembly that it makes me think of a senile person who's just discovered LSD attempting a trendy look to fit in with the grandkids while maintaining a Depression-era inability to let leftover bits of anything go to waste.)

Anyway, I'm doing all right. Lately, most of my free time seems to be consumed by getting stuff ready for my first kid, who's due at the end of summer. Pro tips welcome! (The best one so far: "Don't buy too much crap.")

But really, how hard can it be? Somehow, every single one of my ancestors managed to successfully reproduce.

On the other hand, that's the very definition of survivorship bias. :eh:

Apologies in advance for the South Park, but this is too perfect not to post:

"Yes, yes, I bought the new ceramic Daytona. Now who wants to touch me?"

Mind you, their enthusiasm is no worse than typical forum fare — especially at perpetually possession-peacocking TRF — so let's not judge too harshly. ;)

^While I like the reference it was actually sort of the opposite. I saw Ben the night he got the Daytona C at an unrelated watch event and he wasn't even wearing it so as to not get mobbed.
