As it would happen, Ron Perlman was my idea for Pete Bondurant too. But he's also too old for the part. In fact, I had a great cast for American Tabloid 10 years ago. George Clooney as Kemper Boyd, William H Macy as Ward Littel, and Ron Perlman as Pete Bondurant.

Christina Hendricks is basically the living embodiment of Barb Jahleka.

What about Ray Stevenson as a Pete Bondurant?

Goes to show how uninteresting this show turned out to be when it's dedicated thread gets hijacked.

I like Ray Stevenson but I don't see him having the necessary dark/tragic side to be a Bondurant. He's the right physical type though.

Okay, put me in my place. Googled it up....as a James Ellroy fan, how in the hell did I miss this.

Probably b/c I'm a fan but not a big fan heh.

If you are into Ellroy at all, then you really ought to read American Tabloid. I'm a fan but that is the only one of his novels that I would say is just about perfect.

I loved Black Dahlia and LA Confidential. Especially Black Dahlia. No, haven't seen the movie of it. But the LA Conf movie was pretty decent.

I think the weakness of the LA Quartet novels is that there is a fascinating story about moral and political corruption that has to share space with a shoehorned serial killer plot. Black Dahlia aside, of course, as the killer story is central to the plot. They're engaging novels for sure but Ellroy's fascination with ritualistic murder (understandable, given his biography) makes them lose focus. American Tabloid is brilliant because it's this huge, sprawling pseudohistorical narrative but, on the other hand, is thoroughly focused on its themes.

It was funny how they tried so hard not to get the well more contaminated, and then the fucking zombie got torn in half and all his guts and blood fell inside the well... [IMG]

Kudos to the asian dude for giving it to the farmerĀ“s daughter [IMG]

Aside from that, boring ass episode. Only one walking dead in a show called, wait for it, "THe walking dead" [IMG]

Sweet. Now that I am ass-deep into The Wire, I'm all about moral and political corruption stories. I'll give these books a go.

Had they got the thing out of the well in one piece, like any of them would be drinking that water anyway heh.
