Is not wearing socks ever acceptable? When is not wearing socks recommended and when is it completely distasteful?

I am not wearing socks right now. Sitting on my sofa finishing up some work. Totally acceptable.

Buy some cheap invisible socks on eBay.

I would not go sockless, nor pretend to go sockless, in a suit. Otherwise I don't see an issue.

Going sockless is highly recommended when you wearing espadrilles or flip fops. You should use socks while wearing all other types of footwear, otherwise you'll just ruin your shoes. Buy invisible socks if you want that sockless fit.

yeah but it's psychologically healthy to not give things too much respect. i typically have a pair of shoes (usually loafers but not at the moment) set aside to wear sockless. It's convenient and surprisingly liberating.
