I am done with all the MTM stuff here in southern california, and am very interested in getting something done from Pastena. Can anyone shed some light on what the process is? If I go to a fitting in LA, is it one fitting, or are there multiple fittings before the suit is ready? Just trying to get an idea of timeline and how many in person fittings vs virtual try ons are needed and how the process usually goes.

I've done one virtual fitting for a single jacket and it's worked for me. Once Antonio gets your fit down it's a matter of weeks (3-4) from the time you commission a garment to when it's being delivered.

But, since Antonio will be in your area it's best to visit him.

I did one in-person fitting when he came to Houston. Process was visit 1, choose fabric and get measured. Visit 2 was fitting. Jacket was shipped a couple of weeks after visit 2.

The first meeting is to look at swatches and get your measures. If you have a jacket or pair of trousers you like I would take it with you to show him what your preference is for how loose or close you wear your clothing.

He will quote you and ask for a deposit, and the order will be ready for a very early fitting at his next visit. Some of the style details can be decided as late as this appointment (lapel width, number of buttons on jacket, on sleeves, shoulder expression, etc.)

Some time after that second visit, he will mail you the finished garment. You can wear it at that point if you are happy with it or send it back for revisions if necessary (he can videocall to consult with you about fit or issues). Or if you want to skip doing all that stuff remotely, you can see him again on his third visit to discuss changes.

The meetings are all done at a hotel room in Woodland Hills. I usually book the hotel for him.

Not the valley! Just kidding, kind of, but happy to make the drive for this. Thanks for the info, that sounds great, and pretty much what I was expecting. Do you need to message him for ideas of fabrics, or does he bring a good amount of swatches?

He brings a bunch of fabric books and swatches. Unless there's something ultra specific and rare, you'll probably be able to find something you like.

He will bring the most popular stuff. Usually about 25 bunches. It's plenty to choose from. But if you have something in particular you want to see you can engage with him in advance to ask him to bring the book for it.

And if there is something ultra specific in mind send him a message on whatsapp or instagram. He has a huge stash of books in the workshop - Like an entire room of them - But can't bring them all with for obvious reasons. He can either toss that book in at special request or cut a piece off the sample to bring with.

Great, going to try to make November but will do the next one if I can't. Thinking of copying the grey heritage twist suit, or maybe something similar with a POW check. Also wanting a brown herringbone or plain tweed jacket, trying to decide if it makes sense to just do a suit to have them both to wear together or as odd trousers

I'm curious about this virtual fitting process that you guys mention. How is it facilitated? They ask you to measure your body on camera? Do you need someone with you to do measurements that are hard to do on your own? Can they problem solve fit issues over Zoom, given the video quality?

I don't know about the virtual fitting process. However, I sent him my measurements which were taken by another person based on the instructions on his website and photos of my posture. In my opinion, the first fitting turned out surprisingly well. Antonio himself would not have considered a second fitting necessary. However, I insisted on it to be on the safe side. For the trousers, I sent him my best-fitting pair, with a few requests for changes. See for yourself. The second fitting is due to take place next month.

You can provide measurements to them per their instructions and tell them the fabric you want. They will prepare a fitting garment and mail it to you with postage paid to mail it back to them after the fitting is over. Antonio's father accompanied him on my virtual fitting and his father was able to look at the garment while I was wearing it on camera and make the corrections. I believe this is the Rock of Eye method.

One of the biggest benefits from dealing with Pastena is as far as I can tell is they aren't farming out any of their work to other tailors. The work they've produced for me is consistent.
