I've looked at this hat every season it's been restocked for a couple years. I feel I would be in the same position as you. It looks good, fits a niche that I don't otherwise have covered, but how often to I wear suits outside in the spring/summer enough that I would need a head covering to prevent a sunburn? I wear a baseball cap when I walk the dog or play sports, sit at the pool, etc. A paper hat would not fit with those outfits, only when I wear real pants and shoes. I just don't see it getting any use as much as I have thought about it. Now that it's available cheaper than list price, let me consider it again. I hope someone else jumps on it before I make up my mind.

Just curious- why don't you think a paper hat would work with those outfits (e.g. casual ones)?

I wonder because I've been looking at the Sublime paper hats with the expectation that they would be for casual clothes only.

I just think of them as something that would appear out of place in suburban DC and most of America. South Florida, So Cal and places where cowboy hats are not uncommon may have more of a range. I already dress a little different than most in my area as most on this thread probably do. My suits actually fit. I wear a pocket square and real shoes. I wear boots not sneakers with casual pants and jeans. I actually own and wear casual pants and don't just wear sweatpants or shorts year-round. Short sleeve madras, rayon, or linen shirts in the summer not just t-shirts. I think a hat might be a bridge too far.

My dermatologist tells me to wear a hat for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I don't have the hair coverage I used to and my skin burns easily.

I SHOULD wear hats for sun protection too, but I usually don't when I'm running around town. That being said I've got a few similar hats and I always take one if I'm traveling somewhere sunny and I'm always glad I do.

Regarding the Sublime paper hat: I got one last spring and wear it all the time in the spring and summer, regardless of what type of outfit I'm wearing. It works just as well with tailored trousers and a sportcoat on the way to the office as it does with shorts and a madras while taking the kids on a walk or jeans and t-shirt while helping on my parents farm. Nine times out of ten I reach for that instead of a ballcap. It's lighter and wears more comfortably and breaths much better than any ballcap I've ever worn.

I'll add that the real utility of those hats is to help keep you cooler in the summer sun - standing outside and not having the top of your head fried is great.

I guess that's why hats were invented in the first place, but until actually wearing one I just saw them as an accessory.

Hey guys, I have this Post Imperial shirt that I love the print, but it's a little long in the body for my 5'9" frame and I don't want to destroy the fringe hem to shorten it. In light of recent events, I'm going to auction it off, ending on July the 4th. Shirt is a size L, I believe I bought from the archive sale and wore once or twice. You can see how light the cotton is, great for summer wear, and the pattern is great up close but also subtle from far off.
