Another aspect for Seoul + Ivy: if Ivy ever made sense from a climate perspective for Boston/Providence/NYC/Dartmouth... , it would make sense for Seoul, whose climate is pretty similar to that of Boston - winters cold to bitter, summers can be very humid, May and October can be glorious

Right. Especially as South Korea goes into open market capitalist overdrive.
Judging from the "tagged" section on the Drake's instagram, Hill is making some major coin in SK. Notice how they've pivoted the editorials all of a sudden to focus on that segment of the market as well. They seem to be after a hip urban crew with some pretty serious disposable income.

The kid's not quite sure about being roped into all this emotional marketing, though. He'd rather be at the park. He's feeling a little stifled by the tendrils of capital draped around his neck.

"Follow the money." They took that literally.

The bit about the primary school teacher decked out in Drake's head to toe cracks me up. How does a primary school teacher afford 400 US$ scarves and 1000 US$ cotton jackets? It's all so tone deaf and fundamentally disingenuous one suspects - or at the very least hopes - that it is purely written with tongue in cheek by now.

Post-Covid anyway that's their target market. Stuffy British professionals are out, the young and wealthy of the global cities are in. It makes sense, Drakes has always built this image of relaxed, down to earth elegance and luxury that appeals to 28 year olds who eat out every night and are partying on someone else's dollar. Alex Delany's instagram (@alex_delany) is what comes to mind as the ideal Drakes customer

For what it is worth, I found myself in old StyFo friends Unipair (where I still cannot fit in anything as they stop at a UK 9.5) in Seoul a week or so ago, who let me know they are the SK licensee for Drake's , and they have a Drake's shop up the street. Only one wall was ties and scarves and squares (i.e, where Drake's has been) while the rest of the shop is everything else - seemed to be a fair bit of MTM going on. Store was probably only 200ish square feet, but had a cool vibe. I bought yet another wool silk square which I probably don't need

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. The current Drake's Seoul location is not the one I was describing above. Whether the current incarnation is Drake's funded, Unipair funded or some combination thereof, it clearly is in Drake's interest to make some noise about it. Also, the new store is probably 2, 2.5x the size of the prior one, so it is quite possible whomever the financial backers are just possibly know what they are doing
