Well spotted! Thank you. I was lucky enough to try it on in the store last Sat...it wasn't for sale at that point and was the wrong size anyway, but it was just lovely.

I picked up the ecru version last summer but ended up returning it. I was initially seduced by the extremely dry, crisp handle of the cotton, but it just wasn't great with any of the outfits I tried to build around it when I got it home.

By contrast, I really like the fit, cut and collar of the knitted polos they make in cotton-linen, although they're extravagantly expensive, even when measured with the usual Drake's yardstick. I have one of those in navy and wear it a lot in high summer. It's great under a linen overshirt, with white denim and suede loafers.

As far as piqué polos go, I think the Drake's example is very well executed. For me, my fleeting experience with it just confirmed that I'm not really a piqué guy, which isn't the product's fault. Much as I want to like them and understand their history as an iconic piece of menswear, most of them just feel too corporate (or something) for me. No matter how I try to style them, I still feel like I should be standing behind a rental car counter at a regional airport, helping someone choose between the Subaru Forester or the Kia Telluride. I'm just happier with knit polos (and tees for that matter).

Not that anyone asked or is likely to care, but: the only piqué polo I currently own and wear is the recent Sunspel x WM Brown collab in navy long sleeve, which I bought mostly because of its operable barrel cuffs — they felt unusual on a piqué polo. I like it well enough, but candidly it hasn't held up very well to multiple washings. It's still viable with outfits at the casual extreme of the formality spectrum (e.g. faded twill shorts and canvas sneakers, with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow), but even after a few gentle washings, it's worn to the point that I wouldn't consider trying to wear it under tailoring or anything like that. Kind of a pity; it was expensive.

I have four of the knitted rugbys in merino wool (two of which I hust picked up from the archive sale) and love them. A big part is the fit, with the generous sleeves and shorter hem. Do you know whether the cotton-linen knit rugbys fit the same as the merino? And do you wash them?

How is the sizing ? Considering the size guide, it seems to run large.
I ordered one TTS. The sizing in body is very similar to another coat I own (manifattura rain caban), so will see how it makes up here. Will try to post when it arrives.

My Drake’s pique polo is long sleeve too, including workable cuffs. I have been wearing mine so often, that the colour faded - but after using some 12 euro machine dye it’s back to its former glory. The thick fabric is a definite bonus here.

Mine is from 2-3 seasons back, and has a particular shape of the collar, little bit 70s like. I often wear it when working from home, eg under a cream sweater I have by Orslow. That special navy collar against the cream really stands out nice on a teams screen. Merz b. Schwanen sweatpants complete the wfh outfit.

I also have a more refined navy polo shirt (not Drake’s), for wearing with more formal tailoring.

Found a picture of the particular collar..

Thanks for sharing this - I'm super interested in this polo and am disappointed to see they don't carry it anymore. Does anyone know where I could find something similar ? I love the collar, the 4 buttons, the pocket, and the barrel cuffs.

Who makes the Drake’s pique polo? They don’t make it themselves. I know Harley make their Shetland sweaters & woollen polo jumper & another Scottish manufacturer makes the sleeveless cardigan. Who makes the polo?

You can get brand new kamakura shirts at All Blues in Leeds for between £100-120. Now, I know that some of the Drake’s designs can be a little unusual, but why you’d be £200 for a plain blue OCBD is beyond me
In the US, online MTO Kamakura OCBDs start at $160; I really need to stock before the price goes up. I only have one but to me the craft level is identical to the five drakes that I own if not better. Kamakura has all the practical colors in solid and stripe as well.

I tried one from Drake's but found the material so heavy and thick that it didn't really work. Don't know if that's typical or not for their polos but it almost felt like cotton canvas.

I prefer The Armoury's polos, Anglo-Italian and Filippo de Laurentiis (they make a really nice light & crunchy crepe cotton polo that I've picked up on sale before)
This is actually a pretty positive review in my book. I love standard cotton pique and the heavier the better for me. The Armoury's is a much finer knit with a same-fabric collar that's meant to match versatile formality with odd jackets.
