Good to know. I was surprised when he said that, as in none of the images I've found of them does it have the look of waxed cotton. The description of the original coats is a bit vague though and I wonder if it did have some kind of water repelling spray, rather than a full-on wax
No, it's just a densely woven cotton :)

Wool Raglan owners, specially the Navy colorway, how do you take care of it?

I'm noticing some pilling, best to shave it or to leave it like that? I really love the coat but it would be perfect if the fabric were a tiny bit thicker I think.

All the talk previous page reminded me—this came in today. Size 38, typical Drakes size. I’m between medium/large. Roomier than shirt jackets few years ago. Duck canvas?

I have a size large thermal underneath fwiw. Home wear oversized everything hehe. This seems to accommodate sweater fine IME so far. In CA fair weather, I think it’ll be fine with a shirt and scarf bundled up except the coldest of winter days.

Had this bookmarked for awhile so thanks OP for the reminder!

Or should I size up? 😈

Just bought this cotton chore jacket - blazer hybrid. The cotton is heavy and the navy shade is perfect. Fit is pretty good but I wasn’t looking for perfection with this ultra casual piece. The shirt sleeves make the blazer sleeves look short but they’re not. With this piece I’m done with my five blazer collection.

Sister in law purchased me a pair of orslow 105 in the 2 year wash during her trip to Japan. Was stoked to finally get a pair of 105s considering the hype and all the love they get here, but was so disappointed at how much tighter they are on body compared to my drakes stonewash denim. The leg is nice and wide, but the seat is so much tighter and form fitting than I hoped.

Silver lining from this experience is that I now know Drakes makes the perfect cut of denim for my body type and liking. Sad part is now I have this beautiful pair of high quality denim that I can't wear and knowing I have to settle for what is essentially a higher priced, lower quality drakes option despite having the perfect cut and shape. Not hating on Drakes denim by any means, my stonewash pair is my favorite pair of pants bar none. But they are stupid overpriced and don't know If I'll ever be able to justify a second pair of Drakes denim at full cost.

I feel you! Also tried the 105 in my quest to find the ultimate pair of jeans, but sent it back for a refund. Actually prefer the 107. Denim fits really depend on the person’s physique I guess.

And like you I love the Drake’s fit but I am quite unhappy with my online purchase of the stonewash. The denim quality is really poor, eg the jeans already wrinkle if I fold it and lay it away. And the size stretches quite a bit too after washing and wearing, so I should have gone 1 size smaller.

Lesson learned: only buy denim in their physical shop where you can see the quality and try on a pair that has been worn in already (through all the fittings). I bought a pair of slim fit Drake’s in the store around 6 months ago and the quality is much better. I also saw that they have a raw washed denim that is just a bit more expensive in their loose fit, maybe the quality is better here.

Just ordered a pair of Bryceland’s online, the black 933, see how they fit.

I asked how heavier was the fabric before ordering it: it’s 550 gsm. It’s definitely heavy fabric. Some, like Simon Crompton advices more weight for a winter coat. I find it great as it is. For the cold days, layering and accessoires like scarf, gloves and hats are key I think and 550gsm is enough, unless you live in very cold places. It’s -2 degrees Celsius here in Switzerland. I’m wearing mine with a Shetland and wool scarf and I’m glad the fabric isn’t heavier. Also the drape is fantastic as it is IMO

Same experience here! Was impressed by the quality of the Orslow denim but the fit was nowhere near as good as my Drake's denim.
I recently picked up a pair of Rubato Lot no1 denim, have you looked at those? The fit is quite similar to the Drake's denim but I would say that the quality is definitely a step up from them. They do not have a pre-faded pair though. So you'll have to wear a raw pair and fade it yourself.

Besides the denim and chore jackets, what's an item you've owned that hasn't deteriorated in a relatively short time?

My cord five pocket pants are heavily worn in the crotch and seat area, and there is already a hole in the back, after about two years. Same with the cord shirt. The underarms are so worn that you can see through them. Again, this is after two years or less. Both items were purchased from Nordstrom.

This is crappy quality for a brand like Drake's.
Flannel cotton work shirt and linen shirts are still in like new condition after about three years of very active wear (the color has faded a little in linen shirts). Shetland jumper is also in really great condition and I would say I’ve worn it over a hundred times. Cotton hoodies have proven to be exeptionally great quality as well. Cotton pique shirts really great as well. Outerwear marvelous ofcourse…

That being said I agree with you about the needlecord fabric they use. I wouldn’t buy any of that anymore. Scarfs are also quite delicate and my beard seems to damage them 😕

Kent CP6 cashmere brush is great for nearly all wool fabrics. I use it for the raglan coat as well.

Was about to pull the trigger on an Orslow denim but the photos of the fit didn’t convince me.

What would you say is the issue with the fit exactly? I have been craving for black denim trousers but Rubato’s rise seems a bit low for my taste.

Here’s another attempt in pairing the chore jacket. I think i need a fairisle sweater or vest. IMO I think the chore jacket or this one in particular jives best with sole denim.

the rubato pair look amazing, but definitely out of my price range atm. Would like something sub 200 if possible that has a similar cut to drakes.
