That picture is one I’ve used for fit inspiration and to try to dial in fit. To me, the model consistently wears his chores bigger than tts… sometimes even over a blazer. Part of this is evident by the shoulder seems and rolled cuffs compared to how I wear mine (tts 38).

For materials, I have the selvidge cord and the heavy cotton twill (in ecru, with the cord collar). The heavy twill is noticeably heavier (duh). So much so that I wouldn’t wear in warm weather. The cord is more lightweight… for more mild weather. I while the measurements seem similar, I have problems, esp in the arms, when wearing both a shirt and sweater under the cord version… where I seem to be able to layer more easily with the twill.

As far sizing, my guess is that the model is shorter than you and the length will end up shorter. In trying to replicate this fit I recently sized up to a 40 (that St. John’s chore I posted about). I found that too big, even with my thickest sweater… this being in the chest. Sleeves and length were manageable.

Given you are 6’2” and slim (I’m 6’ and slim), I would think a 40 might be big on you in the chest… unless you really want to wear it oversized and with layers. But it’s probably what you need in the sleeve, and closer to the fit in the pic.
Am I right in thinking the inspiration images usually show an altered item i.e. waist taken in? If he’s sized up that much it would be like a parachute if not for alteration?

Besides the denim and chore jackets, what's an item you've owned that hasn't deteriorated in a relatively short time?

My cord five pocket pants are heavily worn in the crotch and seat area, and there is already a hole in the back, after about two years. Same with the cord shirt. The underarms are so worn that you can see through them. Again, this is after two years or less. Both items were purchased from Nordstrom.

This is crappy quality for a brand like Drake's.

This look is one of the reasons I want to buy an ecru/off-white chore jacket.

Now come my problems:
1. I don't know which size fits me. I have the chasseur jacket in a 38, which fits well, but is actually a bit short in the sleeves. Should I take a 40 in a chore jacket? I am 6'2 and rather slim.

2. I would be interested to know how warm and robust the different fabrics are. I'm looking at Selvedge denim, waxed Herringbone cotton and cotton Duck Canvas at the moment. What are your experiences if you own the jackets in the corresponding material? What temperatures are they suitable for, especially if you wear a jumper underneath?

Thank you in advance!
If you're still looking, I got one up in the sales forum.

Personally I've never had problems with Drake's garments deteriorating. I still wear OCBDs that I bought in 2016 or so. The collars and cuffs have frayed slightly, but the wear looks good — I wear these shirts in more casual settings.

The Drake's garment I've probably worn the most frequently and the hardest is a navy linen overshirt that I probably bought in 2019. I wear it dozens of times a year in the warmer months, and it still looks nearly new. The same goes for one of the early ripstop jungle jackets, which I bought probably five years ago and continue to wear regularly with no noticeable wear.

I own a lot of things from Drake's, far more than any other brand, and almost everything I've brought home has held up well.

What's your true chest measurement? That will help.

For the record, I have a 41" chest, 6'0", usually a size 42 in most brands and bought the bleached denim chore in a 40 (having tried the 42 as well) and thought that was best... and 2 months later I bought a 42 instead, realizing my mistake. These are supposed to be slouchy and easy to fit, able to toss on without a care. So if you're in between a 38 and a 40, go for the 40 at all.

I obviously don't know for sure but I doubt they would alter chore jackets for simple inspiration pics. Maybe for lookbook pics but maybe not even for those. In my view, Drake's often seem to prefer rather relaxed fits for chores currently. Taking in the waist would somehow go against what they apparently want to achieve and might even throw off the overall silhouette.
Regarding the pic of the guy in the ecru chore: It's hard to tell with his pose and the chore unbuttened but I guess it's just his proportions. Looking at where the shoulder seams fall, it doesn't seem like he sized up.

Corduroy that Drake’s use for shorts and trousers is indeed a bit flimsy. I had the belt loops rip open on the corduroy shorts after just one year. 5-pocket trousers feel a bit more durable but still not substantial enough IMO.

No issues with any other items though.

Sizing advice needed for a potential purchase of a Games mkvii tweed blazer. Been looking at the sizing chart and I seem to be either a 40 or 42. For reference, I’m a 40 in the new grey PoW raglan coat and a size 44 in the wool chore coat and also in the navy pin stripe brass buttoned Games mk3 aw24/25.

Thanks!

I’d go with your typical Games sizing, and not trust the chart. I went with my usual Games size (44) for the tweed Games and was happy I did. It’s got some slouchiness and room for layering sweaters, but if you’re hoping for a fit closer to the body you could go one size down from your standard

I got a harris tweed games a month ago and went TTS for a slightly relaxed cut. Fits a sweater underneath somewhat snugly but still looks sharp and not overly relaxed with just a shirt underneath. I took a 44, which I also took in the cord games and waxed coverall. Typical XL in tops mostly across the board. Hope this helps!

Morning everyone!

Finally secured one of my all time Drake's grails:

View attachment 2183013

Sadly is too warm to wear here in Spain, it will have to wait :)

But it's a beautiful piece, nice roomy fit with a nice drape and length (comes down past my knees), lots of pockets (3 inside pockets, 2 big flap pockets on the outside and a ticket pocket), very nice checkered lining, comes with a hood, a belt... made in Italy as well.

I'm sure there are lots of Macs, trench coats out there, but this is peak Drake's, take a classic garment and just nail all the details to have a piece that will pass the test of time.
Digging up an old post, but I picked up one of these after coming across it in the wild, the navy version with the ticket pocket and belt. The original owner suggested it could use a rewax, and while I know this version had a waterproof coating I’m not sure it was a full wax in the manner of the coverall jacket. Anyone have any experience of this, either with the original ticket pocket raglan mac, or the new reversible version? How “waxy” is the coating on it?

Mine doesn’t have any wax coating in it…

I have the navy version as well. I agree with you, it doesn’t feel like waxed cotton and I would think twice before waxing it.

Good to know. I was surprised when he said that, as in none of the images I've found of them does it have the look of waxed cotton. The description of the original coats is a bit vague though and I wonder if it did have some kind of water repelling spray, rather than a full-on wax

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
