How much do you guys embrace the "relaxed elegance" fit of Drake's shirts vs getting them altered? I have a Drake's oxford, I like it a lot but it's baggy around the waist and kind of billows out when I tuck it into my pants.

Also, anyone have any experiences with Drake's MTO to share? Either the tailoring or shirts.

Oops. Here’s the picture View attachment 2222011
Looks good to me.
Can i ask, is this the 'emerald' green? Or the darker (more Barbour 'sage'-like) version, which is slightly longer? Suspect the latter but can't quite tell. (You get if from the archive sale?)
Why do they do two v similar colours? Always find it a bit odd.
I heard from the store last week a longer version in the emerald green is coming in Sep. That's good news if so!

If you like a more fitted oxford, I can recommend Finamore and then their Tokyo fit. I buy mine from fransboonestore. These days, so high summer, it’s what I will wear 4-5 times a week over shorts. Extremely rugged too, wash mine weekly now at 60 degrees Celsius. I only wear Finamore oxfords, no Drake’s, precisely because of the fit.

Generally I like it. Oxford cloth button downs are a keystone for many wardrobes but we all have a different ideal fit. I feel an OCBD should be a fitted shirt that doesn't have any taper so it hangs boxy, has a broad yoke and shoulder, and comfortable sleeves. Relaxed and comfortable but not sloppy. My only beef with Drake's is the shoulders are narrow and the sleeves shrink a lot in the wash.

As someone previously stated, it may not be the right OCBD brand for you and, thankfully, there are many other options to explore. Per this page that sometimes disappears on their site, MTO for shirts allows for neck size, body size, and length. If your primary issue is room in the waist, I'd look for a more tapered shirt. I have several shirts in my work rotation from proper cloth using their least expensive Oxford cloth and I like them as well.

If you want to mix it up, other noteworthy OCBD brands to consider include Anglo-Italian, Wythe (I haven't tried them but others really like them), and Luca Avitabile's shirts for Permanent Style, which have a great collar roll and beautifully antiqued MOP buttons.

I've had good experiences with the MTO program, both for shirts and tailoring. The Drake's team makes the process fun and easy, and the range of cloth on offer is terrific. Don't forget about overshirts! Those are also available to commission MTO.

Difficult to tell from that one pic. Looks like going smaller won’t be adviseable, eg look at the sleeve length. I’d try it on with a sport coat underneat and then close the jacket. Wouldn’t be surprised if you need one size larger.
I’ve tried it on with a sports coat and chunky sweater. There is more than enough room to layer. I was on the fence about it, but I’ve decided to keep it. I think I just wasn’t expecting it to be quite so boxy.

Yes. I got in during the Archive Sale. It’s actually the lightweight version… it’s the same weight waxed cotton as the other models but doesn’t have the quilted lining. This one is listed as just “green,” so it’s actually a third shade of green.

So does "body size" mean you can customise the waist measurement in the MTO service?

Hey I hope you all having a nice weekend.
We have been adding some extra Drake’s item recently if you are not subscribed to us to be in the know.

A selection and scarves for summer and jackets ready for when it gets a little chilly. Plus all other other good stuff too.

Worth checking us out even showing your other half our site too incase something interesting them.

Take care

No. Body size is the base size of the shirt and then you can chose the literal collar size. Sometimes sizing up or down is great in the body but then the collar is way too tight or loose.

e.g, A size 16 body with a size 15.5 neck, make the length of the shirt and sleeves 3.5cm longer is about the extent of what you can do.
