Canada has a transitional FTA with the UK.

the US does not have one with the UK, which means duties on products over $800.

Yes, but Drake’s is also charging Americans more than anyone else for things that are made right here in America (like the Aurora shoes). That’s not tariffs.

“It’s the B word: Bal-ma-caaaan. We’re paying almost twice as much as they are in the UK. Twice as much, for the same coat. 30% more than canada. It’s not fair but that’s the way it is. Because, folks, we can’t make good deals anymore.”

I have no idea what they’re doing. Drake’s just has wonky pricing.

in retrospect, the American Revolution was a mistake. Who cares about the stamp act and tea I don’t want to pay duties on a pair of moc toe desert boots.

So does anybody have an adequate explanation as to why CAD prices are lower than US?

We know it's not duties. Perhaps a gift to Canada for being part of the Commonwealth of Nations, and not rebelling against the metropole?

Could just be arbitrage pricing. Market is US is bigger/richer so they know they will sell through even at higher prices.

Almost reminds me of how Australians like 40% more for AAA video games for no apparent reason.

Maybe Michael Hill saw my Drakes knock off thread and is raising prices out of spite.

That’s the most likely explanation.

But in all seriousness, CAD pricing now closely aligns with UK pricing (inclusive of VAT). If VAT was removed for international orders, that would be great.

Cheapest way to buy from Drakes is to buy in the UK, and get your VAT back at the airport.

The $800 limit only applies IIRC for US individuals buying from overseas. If Drakes is shipping from within the US then the company has already paid the duty and that is passed on to US clients. The lower Canadian price seems to imply that we (Canadians) are getting goods shipped from a UK warehouse, on the safe assumption that there is no Canadian warehouse.

I have it in a medium (I’m usually a 40 in jackets) and find it to be quite roomy. I’d say an XL would serve your purpose, particularly if you’re wearing J. Press Shaggy dogs in a classic fit XL.

Just wanted to thank you once again. I ended up ordering an XL and it fit just right.

...now I just need some help with the sizing for their wool fleeces. Heh.

FYI, Ssense just marked down a bunch of Crosby boots and Chard derbies. While the discount is 25%, the starting listing price is well below what Drake’s is charging on their US site, so it’s closer to 40%.
