I definitely agree. I've had an Ebay saved search for a balmacaan for a while, but I think the classic versions can be too stark with their plain fronts - it's uninterrupted fabric from the collar down to mid-thigh. To me, Drake's patch pockets break up that starkness in a pleasing way. Not sure if I'm articulating that well! I think No Man Walks Alone stocks something similar? I dunno, but I'd be interested in hearing if there are other makers in the same style of Drake's balmacaans.

Mr. Porter also has a 30% off sale for subscribers going on now. Some Drake's items are included. I actually pulled the trigger on their ecru jeans. At $293.09 I think that's a reasonable price and I'm unlikely to find it cheaper living in the US.

On that note, could we get some other black Friday sales with Drake's items posted here as they come in?
I highly recommend the Drake’s balmacaan. The collar sits up just perfect, patch pockets make the look a bit more interesting but the lenght is the king for me. Too many balmacaans are too short. That new brown donegal is a killer fabric!

I'm interested in purchasing the Fair Isle Jumper from Drake's. I know there are measurements listed on the website, but some other posts have made it sound like they're a bit off.

Any advice as to sizing for knits? I'm usually a 46R. I wear an XL in J. Press Shaggy Dogs. I'm concerned that their Fair Isle Jumper in XXL might be too snug for me.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I've seen multiple makes with the pocket styling similar to Drakes. Personally prefer the slant.

Off the top of my head:
-Kaptain Sunshine via NMWA
-Coherence Corb (there's two versions, the 2nd one has the flap patch pockets with a ticket pocket) from Armoury, Michael Jondral, Beige Habielleur, etc.
-Frizmworks https://en.frizm.co.kr/product/sear...uct_price2=&order_by=&x=0&y=0&page=2&cate_no=
-Todd Snyder https://www.toddsnyder.com/products/j-press-glenplaid-raglan-overcoat-black
-Berg & Berg https://bergbergstore.com/products/nelson-raglan-coat-sand

Rad, thanks!

Thanks for the information! It's details like that that make a garment stand out. Great pic, btw. I definitely want the grey herringbone, as it seems like a quintessential coat fabric to me.

I have it in a medium (I’m usually a 40 in jackets) and find it to be quite roomy. I’d say an XL would serve your purpose, particularly if you’re wearing J. Press Shaggy dogs in a classic fit XL.

NGL, that looks amazing. It's crazy how expensive Drakes coats are in the US, though. It's not obvious to me they're substantially better than the PWVC x PS, DBF Grandad coat, or even their doppelgänger: KS traveler. All of those are between $1100 and $1400. Really hard to swallow 2K.

I was just about to post that $1200 for a coat like this is surprisingly affordable ... and then realized I was seeing the price converted to USD on their UK site.

Yeah yikes

Yeah I'm a little confused by that. I remember last year they just showed up at around 2K on the US site, but now when I go and try to buy one they show as the converted USD, but will not allow me too ship within the US. How does someone from the US actually order one of these if they wanted to?

They have a dedicated US site here:

Yeah, several times now I've mistakenly gone to drakes.com (not us.drakes.com) and it displayed the direct converted GBP to USD prices which led me to believe I was shopping the US site. The prices were considerably lower...don't recall the exact numbers, but chore coats were like $488 USD, jeans were $240 USD. I legit thought they had lowered their prices. But as was mentioned, there's no options to check out in the US from here.

Once you go to us.drakes.com you see the actual US pricing, hefty markups included.

Thanks all. Not sure how I didn’t catch they had a US specific site they didn’t redirect me to automatically.

What do people think of the quality of Drake's tee shirts? I'm enjoying mine so far but it is very early days yet and would be curious to see if others have a preference for tees from other brands at similar price points. Do they hold up well over time in regards to pilling or colour retention?

Thought to mention that I ordered the rust suede chore jacket in sizes 38 and 40 from Mr. Porter's 30% off sale. Unfortunately, they sent a size 42 in error (too large) along with the 38 (too small). I intend to return both so these may/should be relisted at some point in the coming days. If anyone is interested in these at cost (30% off, no sales tax) before I ship them out later today or tomorrow, feel free to DM.
