Nobody has dared to ask Steed that question for fear of being skewered by the umbrella.

Does your maple have two pronged scratches at the tip cap and two lower scratches near the band right above the canopy, both regions with scratches confined to the tip? Incredible photos

The marks are from where nails have been hammered through the metal cap and into the end of the wooden shaft. This keeps it in place. The ends of the nails are cut off and machined down thus leaving a small scratch.

If you look very closely you can see this since the colour of the metal for the nail and the cap are different.

It's seen better on this James Smith:

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Do you know what the metal cap pieces are made of? Regarding the bold, I just sanded away the darker finish of the cap pieces (immediately above the canopy and at the crest of the tip) and it confirms what you said.

Unfortunately, that's all they had online. I'll keep a look out at Papworths for additionally something different. I wasn't intending to buy the golf, but for an extra £35, I couldn't resist! The golf is 27" whereas the Maple is 25".

My 25" bark chestnut is not too small at all, in fact it is little bit longer than my 26" maple.
You guys' umbrellas are not for use, just for display.

I get about 25 days of rain a year where I live so I have to agree with you.
