Was it very windy? Is it a 10-rib umbrella? As I've reported here a couple times, one of my Briggs umbrella bent a rib against NY's strong wind like it was warm butter.
It's surprising to hear this. One of mine has withstood 40-50 mile gusts.

I also had a Brigg suffer a bent spoke as a result of a moderate wind gust only a few weeks after I bought it. Another Brigg had its canopy stitching come loose. Both were solid stick models purchased from the Papworth company store like Greg's.
A knowledgeable person told me there were three different type of frames used in Brigg umbrellas and the one in my umbrella was the the lower quality one made in Asia, but I did not get a chance to find out more. Perhaps another member knows more of this story and is willing to share....

I have seen Brigg umbrellas, at least the steel shafted ones, that use double spoke "Fox" brand frames and I assume they are tougher. Fox also sells umbrellas under their own brand, which are similar in appearance and price to Brigg. I assume older Briggs maybe tougher since I have not read about any issue with this brand until a year or two ago.

Seems like there have been quite a few complaints about the Papworth seconds. I had toyed with getting one, but I think I'll pass.

If randall's cage doesn't make it into one of Vox's threads, I will be very disappointed.

I wish Papworth/Brigg would indicate somehow if they were actually selling "seconds" and what, if any, was the difference between them and the full priced umbrellas. The umbrellas offered from Papworth company store were made for Dunhill, Hermes, and Tie You Tie and had no indication they were somehow inferior.
