That's a bummer for me. I had hoped R last to have a lower instep. F and U both are too roomy for me across the vamp. Or is the toe box that much wider so I could size down?

    Thanks for your reflections...

hmmm, if the R has a higher instep, wouldn't it have less volume under the laces? or is it just wider overall in that area? I am curious as the one spot that is a little too snug on my F last OE II is the midfoot/laces area. So if the R is more accommodating, I might go to that last for my next pair.

    If I'm a 9.5D US, what size am I for the F-last?

43 worked for me in F last and I am slightly wider than 9.5D.

    Well for comparison.

    I'm a 9.5D in the 5-last (AE) and 8.5UK in the simpson/rain last (Carmina)

Of the last you mention, I have only tried Carmina Rain and 8.5UK fit me perfectly for a loafer (meaning comfortably snug). I believe you will find slightly more room in the Vass 43 F last than the 8.5UK Carmina Rain.

I'm starting to wonder if I should just give up trying to obtain a pair of Vass. I've read page after page on Vass last fittings and i'm still apprehensive about ordering a pair. There seems to be much debate on the U-last and since Vass does half sizes I feel like I can't take any chances.

Is there anyone here that wears a US9D? Do you wear a EU42 or 42.5 on the U-last? What about the F last? I'm starting to think I like the F last better because it has a more rounded toe. I don't know if my feet can take punishment from a tapered toe box on the U last.

Quote:I have't tried on a pair of Vass, but from what i was told from a reputable retailer, a typical 9.5D should fit nicely in the 42.5 F-last. There are places that offer free shipping and returns if you live in the U.S so the buyer can get the sizing correct without any hassles.

If you're in the US. AV No man walks alone has various F last shoes at cheaper prices than I got mine for dealing direct with Vass. (I did have to pay Vat tho) if you're a US9D I reckon you'd be good with 42 in F or U last. And if they don't fit, just exchange them

Ok, I am US9 and I take U last in 42.5 and I am told I should be 42 in the F last (though I don't have a pair in F last to confirm).

Yes, though I do take the same size in F and U.

how would you describe the fit? comfortable? roomy in the toe box or just right? Or have you experienced any discomfort with the U last?

The U last in 42.5 is a little narrow in the toe box but pretty spot on everywhere else. I'm a UK 8.5. Rezso told me going to a wide fitting wouldn't fix this so I'll likely switch to F or the classic lasts in future

If the U fits you well everywhere but the toe box, I would not size down going to F, because the toe box is the only meaningful fit difference between the two.
