Thanks for making my point for me, which was: I shouldn't have purchased them without seeing and trying them on first. No matter the degree of "due diligence" one employs, there's no substitute for actually putting the shoes on your feet. Most here don't have the opportunity to do that prior to buying and it's entirely possible that one will go through your exhaustive list and still find that the shoes don't fit.

Is that even a possibility with Vass in Hungary? "If it doesn't fit I don't want it"?

I'm curious about these AS Budapesters. Some of them look extraordinarily like Vass, especially the upper stitching on the Norweger, and the shoe trees appear to be made by Vass' maker, but are badged differently. The soles are different too, prob not Rendenbach. Anyone know where they're sold, and as what?

The bottom left shoe appears to be a Peal and Co for Brooks Brothers.

Okay, so I received my Vass shoes today. I had ordered a Old English model plan cap toe in black calf on the U-last with beveled waist and single sole. My size in G&G is UK8 and in C&J (348 last) UK7,5 so I figured I'd go for a UK8 (EU42). It turned out to be a little to big. Therefor I'm going to change it to a UK7,5 (EU41,5). Thought I'd share my experience concerning the Vass-fit since it seems there's a whole lot of people having the same issue deciding their size. My advice would be, go with the same size that you have in C&J, or C&Js 348-last to be more precise. Hope this helps future Vass-owners.

EDIT: Oh, and other than that, the shoe is crazy-good-looking. The U-last is even more beautiful in reality than on picture. Given that UK7,5 fits me I'm going to order me a whole bunch of Vass-shoes.

Received my boots last week and am quite pleased. They are substantial yet sleek, quality is excellent.

F last is even better in person.

Random question for those familiar with Alden Modified last and Vass

I've found the Alden Modified last fits me very well in the heel, arch and instep but the limited availability even for basic styles is problematic (yes I've been to Moulded Shoe). In the various discussions I've found about the modified last, Austro Hungarian makers are often referenced, Vass being one of them. Do any of the Vass lasts have a similar heel/arch/instep fit as the modified last? I know Vass makes a banana last, but I don't necessarily need a full banana last. It's really the heel/arch shape that I'm trying to find in another shoe besides the modified last.

I have an NST on the f-last, which apparently has a lower heel than oxfords causing a little slippage, any recommendations?

This is the first that I have ever heard of this. When I emailed the folks at Vass I was told that exchanges for a different size are not possible for shoes that they ship to you. Please let me know how you were able to do this. Thank you.
