Spotted these at the Gerrard/Yonge Marshall's. Size 43-45. Though I'm no expert, I do have a few pairs and I'm thinking they might be Shell Cordo or at the very least horsehide.

(Apologies if this is a false alarm, YMMV very little product info and I was in a hurry)

It could be Cordovan. Doucal does have a Cordovan line using an Italian tannery.

Andddd if they're not Shell Cordovan there's always that handsome pair of Alden 990 in BST (shameless, I know)

Hey guys, anyone know a good cobbler that can just add a simple toe tap to a new (or slightly worn) pair of shoes? My regular guy is pushing to shave down the whole front section of the sole to add rubber as well as the toe tap. Just want a nice clean job.

Who is your regular guy?

Any recommendations? want to try a couple different cobblers.

These all require mail-in service. All are members of SSIA, and are the only Canadian cobblers to medal at the SSIA contests, along with competitions in Germany:

1. Dan Frappier in Sudbury

2. Corey Hiltz in Barrie

3. Martin Sugg in Thunder Bay

4. Ron or Patrick Nijdam in Vancouver

I have used other cobblers that also did great work, but not award winners. That said, all of the above can do metal toe taps. Martin and Corey did them for my shoes, and the work is excellent.

Shockingly, there are no SSIA cobblers in Toronto. And no cobblers in Toronto have ever won an award at any shoe rebuilding competition.

If you want to try American cobblers, I highly recommend Brian Gavigan in Buffalo:

Also award winning SSIA cobbler and gold medalist in Germany.

Shipping to US is a huge pain and costs are stupid.

B Nelson in NYC and Bedos in West Virginia are also highly regarded, but I have not tried them. Yet.

Didn't know about Corey's awards. He's worked on multiple pairs for me and has always done a stellar job.

If you have a couple pairs the trip to Barrie could be worth it over shipping. Hell, I commute downtown from Barrie and will happily proxy for a small fee.

Corey won silver this year. Also a cool guy to chat with.

Thanks for the offer. Might take you up on it one day.

His metal toe taps were well done.

With netparcel, shipping costs have dropped significantly
I wouldn't be surprised if it's cheaper than sending to the places you listed in Canada

Ok. I use Cross Border Pickup, and while the shipping is cheap to my US mailing address, I always get nailed for taxes even on shoe repairs. They should not be taxed according to the legislation I have read. I am left with the choice of filing paper work to get my money back.

CBP charges $20USD to give me the paperwork.... Usually not worth it.

Is Net Parcel a company? I should switch over if they are cheaper.

Thanks @chiggyv

@suitforcourt I'm seeing huge discounts recently
1lb mailerbags to the bay area (pants, shirts, etc) have averaged about $8 EA (CAD)
Sent a blazer to Florida for around $12
Even sent a 3lb box to Florida for $16 or $18.
It's saved me so much on shipping
Even a shirt to the UK, sent UPS express, was only $29

On the flip side, shipping within Canada there aren't really any savings
