Those are some great shoes and insane soles. I’ve been looking out for some gunboats myself. Are there any decent options to be had outside of the usual (i.e. Alden or vintage)?

I go for the vintage stuff. Haven't bought a current brand in a long time.

Others really like Grant Stone.

Does anybody know whether Rob's Best Foot Forward is still by appointment only? I know he left a note on his door with a phone number on it, but I'm not sure whether it's the same number as on his website, or if it's a cellphone number. (I know they would have been closed today anyway.) Is he responsive over e-mail?

What shoes did you send to Gary?
These Ralph Lauren Chukka Boots. From what I can tell they are made in USA, most likely by Allen Edmonds based on the labeling on the tongue.
The heels were shot so I ended up getting Vibram Eton outsole and heel.
The Vibram logo is off centre but I could care less. It was Christmas when these came back.

You can drop by, he is working under reduced hours (10 to 3 I believe) during phase 2. Just give him a call before you go, not sure about email but he’s responsive on text/ calls

I prefer the Vibram Eton over Dainite. I don't feel the studs on the Vibram, and they seem softer as a whole. Also, Dainite can be slippery on certain wet surfaces whereas the Vibram grips well. I use both for rainy days, so that's my gauge.

Thanks - need to pick up some Reptan. Do you recall offhand if he's open on Saturday?

Thank you for the update! I'll try to give him a call tomorrow - I'll have to hope for a Saturday or make an appointment, as I'm in Mississauga and cannot make it on weekdays.

I know this is a long shot - but I recently moved to Kitchener. Anyone know of any decent tailors in the KW area? Nothing major, just simple alterations?
